Once upon a time -- on Memorial Day 2017 -- I went to a friend's neighborhood pool. That's a thing to do on Memorial Day, after all. I met my two girl friends there and started to enjoy some relaxation at the end of the school year. Also at the pool happens to be Chip, Jacob,&nbsp;Matt and Sam. Naturally when you put together seven&nbsp;folks in their 20's and 30's, a new friend group is bound to form. So it did.&nbsp;

A&nbsp;few game nights later, Chip and I are friends. When I learn that he's a woodworker willing to build me some barn doors, we become even better friends! Soon after we start texting, Chip asks me out on a date. I decline. Oops! Silly me thought we'd only be friends (after all, he still&nbsp;had a huge beard then!). Nonetheless, we head to the Frothy Beard brewery&nbsp;to discuss the barn doors. Well, after an entire day and evening together, I realize what a mistake I made. I still remember sitting on the stool at Frothy and thinking to myself, "How come it's so easy to talk to him?!" By the end of the night, I say, "Don't be mad at me." When he asked why, I responded with, "I changed my mind..." Needless to say, he wasn't mad :)&nbsp;

And here we are, years later, and it's still so easy to be with him. I never imagined falling in love with a&nbsp;bearded woodworker artist, but now I couldn't imagine life without him.&nbsp;

Her Turn... How We Met...

Short story- I asked and she said yes... Long story-&nbsp;This is a moment you only imagine yourself going through once. How do you make that moment last? How do you make this moment mean more than just a proposal between two people? While trying to answer those questions&nbsp;I fell into my plan of how I wanted to ask my special someone to be my life partner, my WIFE, the love of my life.Being a creator of things, I couldn't help but want to build something that could be a part of that moment and stand as a lasting reminder of the moment I asked Lauren to marry me. That object was a joggling board. Lauren had mentioned on more than one occasion that she would like to have one, and I have been wanting to make one for a very long time. After digging into the history of the Joggling Board, it seemed to fit us quite well. Also known as a "Courtship Bench," this Charlestonian icon was once meant as a gift to the girl's parents from the man who wished to marry their daughter. This bench would sit on the family&nbsp;porch as the young&nbsp;couple gently rocked themselves closer to marriage under the eyes of the parents.&nbsp;So I made one!&nbsp;Now I needed a ring and a place to pop that question. I have known for a very long time that when I was ready to make that particular purchase, my uncle Robert would be the first person to call. Having worked for Solomon Brothers in Atlanta for fifteen years, going anywhere else would have felt wrong.&nbsp;(Yes, Dr. and Mrs. Mitchell and I had already had that talk.)&nbsp;Out of the blue, another uncle snuck his way into this story. Mr. Eric Bowles called me to offer help. Having these two men in my corner during my covert mission into Atlanta helped make this story sparkle in the best way.&nbsp;At this point I knew that bringing&nbsp;family and friends along for this ride would allow for our proposal story to breathe through loving perspectives.&nbsp;Once I was back home, I quickly reached out to Lauren's best friend&nbsp;and photographer extraordinaire Hadley,&nbsp;to plan the final step. We had the date and place picked out. I brought in a best friend of mine Sam&nbsp;and her boyfriend Jared to help set up my Joggling Board at a waterfront park near our house.&nbsp;Day of, wouldn't you know it, there was a concert setting up in the exact spot I wanted to propose. Nerves were high, and I was about to crumble. After a quick change of plans and location, things were back on track. I set up the Joggling Board on&nbsp;the edge of the water at Quarterman Park, a block away from our house. Once Hadley was all set up, Lauren and I took our puppy Piper for a little walk....

King Street is one of the most famous streets in Charleston.&nbsp;If you want a walking tour, start at the battery (southern most tip of the peninsula) and walk up King Street to see some truly stunning Charleston style row houses. If you prefer quality shopping, all of our coolest shops are along middle King.

For those that love to exercise and enjoy beautiful views while you do: take a walk up the Ravenel Bridge! Fun fact: the downtown side of the bridge is literally across the street from our venue!

This one is walking distance from our house! If you know and love the famous Firefly sweet tea vodka, this is their distillery. Not into sweet tea or vodka? Don't worry, they&nbsp;make many&nbsp;types of liquor in all sorts of fun flavors: vodka, rum, whiskey, and moonshine.&nbsp;

Our favorite brewery, also walking distance from our house! If you're a beer fan, you'll love it. Not a beer fan? They still have a full bar and a kitchen with some bomb food. Not your average bar food, either.

If you want a younger crowd or lots of food/shopping options at a beach, then we recommend Folly. No matter which beach you choose, make sure you leave before 10:30am on a Saturday/Sunday to avoid waiting in LOTS of traffic!&nbsp;

Chip's favorite restaurant!&nbsp;His all-time favorite pizza restaurant and brewery had a love child and created Baker and Brewer. His recommendation: the pork trifecta pizza. There's even a bakery/coffee shop inside.

Lauren's favorite coffee shop! Right across the street from the Charleston Farmer's Market (on Saturday mornings) and blocks from the key shopping on King Street.

Only open Saturdays from 8am-1pm, but there's always fun food and shopping. In the heart of downtown King Street shopping district.&nbsp;

Our favorites: Rodney Scott's, Lewis, and Home Team (the latter has multiple locations).&nbsp; They're all different flairs, so check out the menus!&nbsp;

Barbeque

Lauren's favorites! Fleet Landing, Pearlz (for something more casual), and Amen Street. Do NOT go to Hyman's!&nbsp;It's just a tourist trap.

Seafood

If you want the BEST southern food, Charleston is &nbsp;known for Husk, SNOB, Magnolia's, and Paw Paw.&nbsp;

Southern Food

If you need to walk off some of that Charleston food, stroll around the Charleston Battery at the tip of the peninsula. That's where Rainbow Row is (well-known&nbsp;colorful houses) and King St a couple blocks over has some stunning houses too. Keep walking up King St&nbsp;and you hit all the shopping.&nbsp;
