Rick and Lauren were out Downtown San Antonio. They were both headed to a concert to see Alice in Chains at the Majestic Theater. That day Lauren got her ticket last minute to join her dad since it is one of his favorite bands. Rick got invited last minute by a friend to join him since he had a extra ticket. After the show they both so happen to go to the same bar to hang out for a couple of drinks. Of course there is two sides to every story about that night. Who offered to buy a drink and was turned down or who was the weird dude at the bar alone trying to buy this girl a drink. So lets just say it was a start of a friendship and something special neither of them saw coming.

A few months later Rick finally had the courage to ask Lauren out. It had been a rough day on Rick and the SAPD as they had lost a fellow officer that day. One of Ricks best friends and partners, Miguel Moreno. Lauren was by his side that day. Took care of him, sat with him at the hospital, and stayed with him that day to keep him company. They took a walk to South Town, had dinner, and on the way back Rick stopped Lauren in the middle of the street and finally asked to be his girlfriend. June 30, 2017

Three years later Rick finally plans to pop the question and Covid hits. Plans changed and he had to hide the ring in his locker from Lauren for almost 5 months. His original plan was to ask in Big Bend where they enjoy most of their time getting out of the city to travel. They both enjoy the views of West Texas, camp fires with friends, and hiking the trails at Big Bend. Since the state parks were closed due to Covid, Rick had to change plans to the next best thing, Garner State Park. On August, 15 2020 Rick took Lauren to the top of Old Baldy Peak where you could see the views of the Texas Hill Country. That's when Rick got down on one knee and asked for Lauren to be his forever... and Ellie's too.

They finally set the date for October 15, 2022!
