Our Wedding

Lauren hates to admit this - but John and Lauren met online. Always a hopeless romantic, Lauren had envisioned finding her soulmate during a novel-worthy "meet cute" - accidentally receiving each others' mail, reaching for the same apple at the grocery store, or locking eyes on a subway ride. Instead, the universe brought John and Lauren together through Hinge. They immediately connected over an interest in vocabulary, a love of dogs, and a similar sense of humor. From there, plans for their first date were formed, and John and Lauren met for the first time on July 1st, 2023. After spending hours deciding what to wear and consulting friends for advice, Lauren took an anxiety-riddled ride to downtown Wilmington to meet John at a local wine bar, The Fortunate Glass. This is where the fairytale magic began. Lauren entered the building, John turned to smile at her, and time stopped for a moment. Thinking to herself, "I'm in trouble here", Lauren now knew that "love at first sight" wasn't only in romance novels. John fell in love with Lauren three days later, on the 4th of July, when he offered his hand to help her step down from a hill, and she decided not to let go. Over the next year, Lauren fell more deeply in love with John for his kindness, his patience, and the way his eyes crinkle when he smiles. John continued to fall for Lauren's unrelenting thoughtfulness, cheerful spirit, and internal and external beauty (John's words). They discovered they have similar values and complementary dreams for the future. It was the easiest "yes" of her life when John asked Lauren to marry him on the anniversary of their second date, July 4th, 2024. This love story may have a modern beginning, but to John and Lauren, it's one for the ages.

Schedule

A room block has been reserved at the Wyndham Newport Hotel for guests interested in staying there. The Wyndham has lovely views of the upper pond and is where we will be holding brunch on Sunday morning. The hotel is only a short drive or Uber ride over to The Chanler. Depending on timing and availability, the Wyndham may also offer shuttle services to its guests. To take advantage of the room block rate, please call the hotel directly at 401.236.2020 and reference the "Owens-Boyle Wedding Room Block". Reserve by February 25, 2025.

Wyndham Newport Hotel

Another option for accommodations would be to stay at The Chanler itself! Being a more intimate, boutique hotel, The Chanler has limited room availability, so will likely fill up quickly. We do not have a room block reserved, so bookings would need to be made individually through The Chanler website.

For a taste of downtown Newport, the Gardiner House is another great option. The Gardiner House is a newly built hotel on the waterfront, with beautifully designed rooms, on-site dining options, and a fun cocktail lounge. We do not have a room block reserved, so bookings would need to be made individually through the Gardiner House website.

Newport Mansion Tours

We recommend checking out a mansion if you have time during your stay. A few of our favorites are the Breakers, Marble House, and the Elms. Some are open seasonally. Cliff Walk

One of Newport's most famous attractions, this cliff side walk offers stunning views of both the ocean and famous estates of affluent Gilded Age families. Shopping and Dining

There are numerous dining and shopping opportunities throughout Newport, but many can be found in the downtown/waterfront area along Thames Street and America's Cup Avenue. Some of our favorite shopping locations include: The Newport Mansions Store, Kiel James Patrick, Anchor Toffee, Shore Soap Co., and Scrimshanders. There are many more to explore! For dining, some of our favorite spots include: Clark Cooke House, White Horse Tavern, Anthony's Seafood, Atlantic Beach Grill (breakfast), Corner Cafe (breakfast), Ma's Donuts, Gardiner House (cocktail lounge), and Del's Lemonade.

Beaches and Sightseeing

There are several public beaches in Newport and nearby Middletown, RI that you can see. Each is a different experience. They include First (Easton's) Beach (John's favorite), Second (Sachuest) Beach, and Third Beach (Lauren's favorite). Beyond beaches, beautiful views can be taken in at several locations. Sachuest Point Wildlife Refuge has trails that wander along the ocean side providing views of the different beaches as well as the waves. Brenton Point State Park offers wonderful views of Narragansett Bay and crashing waves on the rocky coastline.
