Brian and Lauren first met at a taco bar after noticing each other's motorcycles. Her first impressions about him were that he was sweet, funny, and definitely not shy with compliments. They think their third date was a trip to Florida together, where they had such a good time in the car just talking and sharing music that they almost forgot to book hotels! They had an incredible time, survived the long road trip together, and Brian braved all the roller coasters for her. The moment they knew they were all in is when Brian had a huge career opportunity . . . in Detroit. He asked Lauren about it, thinking there was no way she would leave her home in NC for the frigid Midwest. She knew that he had been working hard for this chance, and that it was worth it to try! That pivotal moment showed just how truly supportive Lauren was. (Though they agreed that she could adopt a cat if they moved to Michigan!) Over the years they've moved house five or six times together, bought and sold a dozen motorcycles, been to tons of heavy metal concerts, generally done lots of fun and silly things, and traveled the world together. They've settled in to their lives in Charlotte, where Brian is captain of the Panthers Drumline and Lauren loves kayaking at the US National Whitewater Center. They are so glad to be surrounded by loving family and friends! The proposal finally happened at the Solheimajokull glacier in Iceland. While Lauren stood in awe of the beautiful surroundings, Brian got down on one knee. (He might have had to psspss to get her attention.) Even though they had already been completely committed to each other for years, Lauren still cried with joy at the idea of finally making it official! They're incredibly excited to share this upcoming big day with their closest loved ones.

Generally trips last from 2 to 3 hours of on water time plus 1 hour for check-in, instruction and shuttle to the rafting entrance. Choose from single or double inflatable kayaks, or a mild or more extreme river tubing experience. (Lauren highly recommends!)

In nearby Highlands, NC, there is a bounty of beautiful roadside waterfalls! Cullasaja Falls, Quarry Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Dry Falls are all less than an hour from Sylva and require very little hiking to enjoy the views! A little farther is Whitewater Falls, the tallest waterfall east of the Rockies! Brian and Lauren love this waterfall roadtrip, and are happy to share tips or a map if you’d like!
