How We Met written by JackI was visiting Ontario, California for a convention, when I received a phone call from an old friend. Knowing that I'm adept at fixing things, she asked me what I knew about prosthetic legs. Confused, I said "not a damn thing, why?" She had a friend who wears a prosthetic coming to the convention, and was curious to see if I could repair it for the friend as a surprise. A few hours later, I got another call, that the wearer of broken leg had arrived at the hotel, and that she was having a shower, and I should hurry if I were to fix this without her knowing. I ended up having to jerry-rig the leg with a wad of tissue and a few band-aids, which was, according to her, "pretty freaking impressive." It was about that time, that Lauren hopped (literally), out of the bathroom and into my life. I have been fixing her leg ever since.

How He Proposed written by LaurenAbout a month before Jack proposed we were planning a trip to California to visit friends and family and to celebrate my mom's 50th birthday. My mom called and asked if we wanted to go to the Magic Castle while we were in town. Initially I thought she was making a Disneyland reference but she explained that it was a magic show of some sorts. I replied with "that's a hard pass on our end" Jack had overheard part of the conversation and lit up when he heard we had actual passes to go to the Magic Castle. So we were on the schedule for May 23rd. We flew into town and celebrated my mom's birthday. The next day we all had to get up early and dress for the strict dress code the castle has. Jack is generally an easy going guy but he was acting super weird. To be honest I was kind of annoyed that he wasn't overjoyed that we were going to see a freaking magic show... in a castle...for members only! We get to the castle and have a beautiful brunch. Our party included my mom, my brother (Caden), his best friend (Daniel), Daniel's dad (Rodney), Jack, our son (Avi), and me. As we were finishing up brunch, a guy approached our table and asked if we would like to see up close magic. He did a few card tricks that absolutely boggled my mind. I was left with a headache trying to figure it out. Then he gave me a wish doll. I was instructed to give it my deepest wish and put the tiny doll into the velvet bag. I did as Jack held one end of the bag and I held the other. We closed our eyes, counted to ten, and opened our eyes to see the magic man had disappeared. Jack said the bag was empty and I thought, "yeah that was the trick, he got his stuff while our eyes were closed and poof he was gone." Jack then said hold out your hand. I did and out of this empty bag dropped a black diamond ring into my hand. It took me a second to realize this was a real ring and it was meant for me. I look over to see Jack on one knee and I instantly started to ugly cry. I thought that, because I knew that he would propose some day, I wouldn't get the water works going but I totally did. Jack had a beautiful speech prepared and then he said "Lauren Elizabeth St Germain, will you marry me?" I would love to say that I responded with something poetic like "a thousand times yes," but being the true classy lady that I am, I managed to nod yes through the tears and then say "oh shit!" It was perfect. It was unique and full of smiles. I imagined that moment with Jack a hundred different ways but all I truly wanted was that feeling of love with my person. I still have the occasional tear thinking about that moment and how many moments we will get to share.

Our Story

Details

Lauren &amp; Corie met in a Pac Sun store when they were 12 years old. They have started bands together, went to proms together and many concerts as well. They have both traveled the world but not together. Their most infamous outing was at a pep rally junior year where they planned a fight scene that included Corie taking Lauren's leg off and running through the amphitheater with it over her head like she was Kirk winning the trophy at the 24 hour dance-a-thon.

Corie Anne Nicole Radka

A friend of both Lauren &amp; Jack. While Kristin may have met Jack first, in high school, it is Lauren who now calls her friend and business partner. They met when their kids were born just 4 weeks apart. From there they have created a funny 'bad mom' relationship which is how 2 Broke Moms Boutique was created.

Kristin Adams

Cassie and Lauren met on their first day of kindergarten. They were just wee little blonde things. They spent more time at eachothers houses than their own. Through all of the many changes in life over the past 23 years they remain close whether it is through facebook, couch catch up sessions, or funny text conversations.

Cassie Alves

Markie started out as the wife of Jack's best friend but quickly turned into the funniest friendship for Lauren. They were meant to be friends. These two will use any occasion to dress up and add a theme to it. There are many tiny top hats in their future.

Elise has known Jack since high school. They rekindled their friendship years later when they ran into each other at a meeting. On Lauren's first trip out to CO one of the first people she met was Elise. The quote "did we just become best friends?" "yup!" applies perfectly to them.

Elise Losasso

A friend of Lauren's,  they met many moons ago in the horrible florescent lighting at Old Navy. It was Lauren's first job. The first day they had a shift together Lauren was assigned a locker on the bottom row and BK asked "how low can you go?" They have been super funny ever since....roughly 2006

BK Kelly

This lovely lady does it all. She employs Lauren, helps maintain her sanity, keeps her aching with laughter, and never fails to provide overall awesomeness. If you Google funniest person ever you will get a list of professional comedians BUT Charlotte should be there too!!

Charlotte

Sister-In-Law of the groom. Like Jack, Lauren has only brothers. While she absolutely loves them she has always wanted to have a sister. Thankfully Jack's oldest brother is married to an awesome woman. Lauren has enjoyed the fun of having a sister. 

Emel Metzel

Niece of the groom. Lauren adores Amanda and loves when they get together and do arts and crafts or make tutus. Amanda also is a wonderful cousin to Avi.

Amanda Metzel

Mickey is literally the best man. He won a competition one time back in '97. He wasn't even like, a man yet, but the judges unanimously decided that his ability to become bearded at 12 years old was a sufficient deciding factor. Jack was one of those judges, and it fostered a lifelong friendship.

Kyle "Mickey" Mickey

David and Jack met each other way back when the only known language was binary. Together they developed the first point-to-point interface in existence which allowed communication without actually interacting with anybody. Their relationship has been described as "Two peas in a pod," "Two apples fell off the same tree," "two pieces of produce in the same natural container," and most importantly "brothers."

David Metzel

Greg is the human embodiment of a mountain bike. Greg and Jack are most commonly known for the trouble they caused back in the great park fire of '98. The blaze covered a whopping .00002 acres, or roughly one square foot. Since then, Greg and Jack have been somewhat inseparable.

Danny is the brother of Lauren. He is known to many by the moniker "Brother." He is the spitting image of human perfection, and his Caller ID legitimately says "Sexy Man Beast."

Kyle and Jack met in the 80s while working in the merchant marine in the South China Sea. After ensuring that pineapples had been delivered to the masses across the globe, Kyle went on to found the Container Store with mutual friend Peter Russel

He once taught a German Shepherd to bark in Klingon. His archery makes Robin Hood look like a newb. He has mastered the art of telekinetic swordsmanship. He will never give you up. He is a recovering attack helicopter. He is.... The most interesting Cody in the world.
