It's a Love Story

The Perils of Online Dating

Like many modern love stories, theirs began with a swipe — on Bumble, to be exact. Michael suggested they meet at Fr8yard for their first date, and neither of them could have guessed how important that choice would become.

Love at First Sip

His version: I spotted her sitting outside the entrance in pink sparkly Converse and immediately knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.

Her version: I saw him walking up in his signature black hoodie and was instantly charmed when he stopped to banter with a random kid running by. He joked that it was “our future child,” and I was caught off guard — not by the comment, but by how easily he made me laugh. His dimples and quick wit sealed the deal.

They spent several hours together sipping craft beer and talking about everything and nothing, despite the fact that it was the middle of February and absolutely freezing.

Then Life Happened

From there, things just clicked. Lauren and Michael saw each other regularly, checked in every day, and found an easy rhythm that felt right — until it didn’t. A few months in, they called things off. Life was hectic, and they both felt overwhelmed by the prospect of building a new relationship.

A few months later, while Lauren was dating other people and definitely not waiting around for a man to “figure his sh*t out,” Michael texted her asking to reconnect. She played it cool with a simple “who’s this?” but of course Lauren knew who it was. And, truthfully, she was happy he came back.

The Greatest Heartbreaks

Not long after they got back together, Lauren's sister passed away unexpectedly. She wasn’t sure their relationship was strong enough to carry the weight of her grief, but Michael showed up anyway — literally. The day after her sister's memorial service, Michael showed up at Lauren's apartment with sushi and wine, offering to leave it at the door if she didn’t want company. That moment changed everything. Lauren knew then that Michael was her person — the one who would show up with no expectations, just love.

A few months later, when Michael had to say goodbye to his beloved dog, Kiko, Lauren was able to be there for him in the same way.

"That's What I Do: I Drink and I Know Things"

From then on, Lauren and Michael were inseparable — spending most nights curled up on the couch in Lauren's apartment with wine, watching Game of Thrones (Michael's first time!) while Lauren's dog, Moose, gradually decided he could share her.

Home on 1st Ave.

A year later, they moved in together, adopted their second dog, Zippy, and started building a life neither of them ever expected but both deeply wanted. Their favorite days are the simple ones — sitting on the back porch listening to the rain or watching the sunlight through the trees, dogs happily playing in the yard, dreaming about the future together.

The Ending of an Era, the Start of an Age

In May 2025, Michael proposed. Lauren was in bed reading, thinking Michael was outside doing his own thing. But really, he was on the phone with her parents asking for their blessing. He had a big plan for the next day, but once he hung up, he couldn’t wait. He came into the bedroom, knelt beside the bed, and asked, “Do you really want to marry me?” Lauren, true to form, laughed and said, “I mean, obviously.” Then he pulled out a ring and said, “No, I mean — do you want to marry me?

Of course she said yes! They celebrated right there in their pajamas with a bottle of prosecco (champagne isn’t their thing), then followed it up the next day with a “formal” proposal at the NC Arboretum, where Michael had originally planned to do it. They took photos, ate their favorite wings at East Village Grille, and called their parents on the way home to share the news.

Now, here they are — planning their wedding and counting down the days until they get to celebrate with all the people who’ve loved and supported them along the way.

Q + A

When and where is the wedding?

We’ll be saying “I do” on April 18, 2026, at The Barn at Tall Oaks Farm in Hendersonville, NC. Ceremony at 5:30 PM, followed by food, drinks, lawn games, and questionable dance moves until 10(ish).

What should I wear?

Dress code: Garden party chic. In other words—look snazzy, but make sure you're comfortable! Weather permitting, the ceremony will be outdoors and the reception will be indoors.

Can I bring a guest?

If your invitation says “and guest," then absolutely! If it doesn’t, we still love you… but it’s just you this time.

Are kids welcome?

If your kiddo’s name is on your invitation, they are more than welcome! Please note we won’t be providing activities or entertainment for children.

Will Moose and Zippy be there?

Our four-legged children will sadly not be walking down the aisle, but they’ll be sponsoring our beer, wine, and lemonade bar.

What’s the weather going to be like?

We can’t promise anything (we’re not Mother Nature), but early Spring in WNC tends to be mild but cool, especially in the evening — average highs around ~68°F and lows in the 40s°F. Pack a layer in case the dance floor gets hot and the lawn gets cold.

Is transportation provided?

Transportation is not provided; however, local taxis, Lyft, and Uber are available.

Do you have a registry?

Your presence is truly the best gift. But if you’re the gifting type, we’re registered on Amazon, Honeyfund, and at Target. You can find our registries at the bottom of this webpage.

I have food restrictions—will I starve?

Yes. Eat before you come. Just kidding! Tell us what your food restrictions are when you RSVP. We promise you’ll get something delicious (and safe) to eat.

Where should I share wedding photos?

Please use our hashtag #TheGerwerGrandPrix on social media so we can laugh, cry, and frame the pictures later.

I still have questions—what do I do?

Send Lauren an email at laurentyler00@gmail.com, or call Michael. Please don't call Lauren...you know she won't answer.
