Like all great love stories, Layne and Sam's started with a lie. They met on Bumble and when Sam quickly asked Layne if she wanted to meet for drinks that evening, she may or may not have told him she already had plans to check out her friend's new Peloton. However, after a few minutes of cyberstalking and some heavy reliance on the character & fitness board, Layne reversed course and agreed to the date.

As you all know--and if that introduction wasn't enough of a primer--Layne and Sam met while both were in law school in Oklahoma. When Sam asked Layne on a second date an hour before the first date ended, she was so impressed with how intentional he was. Although, Sam would later admit that this was in part for efficiency--he didn't have any interest in a pen pal.

Their second and third dates had a couple of hiccups: Sam got a parking ticket while at a coffee shop, and the picnic Layne planned was cut short by April winds, but they kept laughing with each other and making the most out of their time together.

Since those early days, they've experienced the stresses of finishing law school, supporting each other during the Bar exam, lining up their first jobs, and by May of 2022, they were settled in their first apartment together in Kansas City. Their love (and their lab) outgrew that apartment and they moved into their current house in early 2023.

Now with new jobs and a new puppy, they're ready for the next adventure: tying the knot.
