We first met at the Church at Rock Creek, the summer of 2022. We had a few mutual friends, but our paths never crossed until then. We would see each other at church over the next couple of weeks because I (Layne) was an intern for the student ministry and Ben was working in the fourth and fifth grade ministry. We would occasionally text, but nothing ever sparked for us until summer of 2023. We had just finished dinner with some of the life group leaders when I received a text from Ben asking if I wanted to go see a movie. I had already seen this movie and so had Ben. Nevertheless, we went to see Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The movie had finally ended and as I was about to get into my car, Ben nervously asked me on our first date. We became best friends quickly, going on many more dates. I went back to school for my final year at Ouachita Baptist University, while Ben worked at the Church at Rock Creek. The (short) distance was definitely not fun, but we grew closer to each other over this year. Once I graduated, it was only a few (long) weeks later that Ben asked me to marry him. It was the easiest question I have ever answered. On January 12, we get to begin our life together and watch how the Lord grows us closer to him and to each other. We cannot wait to embark on this journey together!
