What is the best way to get to Ensenada by car?

As a San Diego local, the best way to get to Ensenada is to drive. It is approximately 2 hours south. You will be crossing an international border during this drive so please check visa requirements on the 'Important Visa Information' page. Ensure you acquire third-party Mexican car insurance for the weekend as Mexico does not recognize American insurance. Please also refer to the Q&A below regarding toll roads.

What is the best way to get to Ensenada by plane?

We recommend flying into San Diego International Airport (LAX is also viable and often cheaper for international travelers but will be a 2-3 hour drive or train from San Diego). When you rent a car, please ensure the rental company knows you will be traveling to Mexico. If they do not provide it, you may need to get Mexican car insurance for the weekend as Mexico does not recognize American insurance. From San Diego, the drive to Ensenada should take approximately 2 hours. You will be crossing an international border during this drive so please check visa requirements on the 'Important Visa Information' page. Please also refer to the Q&A below regarding toll roads. *NOTE: Dollar rental is the only company we have found that does not require you to be a US resident to rent a car and drive it to Mexico, therefore, this is the company we recommend.

Are there tolls on the drive to Ensenada?

YES. There are toll roads on the way to Ensenada that are CASH ONLY. The total amount to get to the venue and back to the US will be under $20 USD or 300 pesos. They will take either currency but will NOT take a mix.

Is there an alternative way to get to Ensenada from San Diego?

Yes! Beginning in early 2025, there will be a brand new ferry available that will take people from the San Diego harbor down the coast to Ensenada. Once in Ensenada, it's a short Uber/taxi ride to wherever you need to go. They have not started operations yet but we will provide you all with more information on this transportation option closer to the event. It is expected to cost $70 for a single trip or $130 round trip with two departures per day.

Are there additional travel options?

Yes. In addition to renting a car from Dollar and taking the ferry mentioned above, you can also rent a car in Tijuana to drive down. The couple is also working on additional solutions to get you safely to Ensenada including a private bus to shuttle people from the US boarder to Ensenada. Knowing how many people would use this service would be helpful in its organization, so if this option is the most appealing to you, please let the bride and groom know. The bride and groom are committed to getting everyone to and from their wedding safely and as easy as possible. Stay tuned for further updates.
