When This ... Met That

Our story is long, complicated, and required many pieces to fall together at the right time and in the right order. I owe most of the credit to Brian... who was persistent and tricky enough to make me fall completely and head over heels for a man in an era of being over monogamy. 3... 2... 1....

My side

It started on a show called Paper Girls. In a city I had been dreaming of since college theatre... Chicago. Fast forward to "training day," teaching our actors how to ride bikes, work a little on formations, and get some practice on genuine 80's bikes... They are very wonky with backpedal brakes. Keep in mind this is the era of COVID, so everyone is in a mask. Eventually, this random dude walks over to me and introduces himself as Brian the assistant coordinator. ...Copy that. Boss... And boy is he a boss, the kind you want in some ways... efficient, a good communicator, to the point, but he was a bit of a dick, didn't really smile, or joke around. Whatever I thought he's my boss, I don't have to like him. To this day I affectionately call him the asshole when we work on set together. &lt;3 My thirtieth birthday was fast approaching, so I invite Brian as a sign of respect, along with a guy I was actually interested in. We held it at a karaoke bar. Brian shows up and holy snap... the life of the party?What the Actual... He danced. He sang. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Ok so maybe he's not just a dick. Still my boss and as many people know he was married at the time, plus def not my type. I was into a few other boys.Hawaii boyFlorida boyChicago boy....It was the post Kevin phase. I'd been a serial monogamous since I could date. I was done putting all my eggs in one basket. a few more karaoke nights with the stunt community,a Fourth of July party,all of a sudden the summer is over and papergirls is wrapping up. Brian calls me over the last night of reshoots and tells me he's got something going on in his life, everyone in his community are too close to the subject, and he'd love to chat about it with someone outside with a non-biased view. if you don't know this about me, I love giving advice one of my oh so wonderful and sometimes annoying qualities...ask my mom, dad, friends, any rando on a barstool next to me. that, along with hearing any kind of gossip, drama, or insight into anyones personal life. I'm a good ol southern busy body. nosey through and through. Long story short and 5 shots of Malort later, he's telling me his wife is in love with someone else, they're separating.he told her he wants her to be happy and he should be allowed to pursue the same... "I wanna take you on a date." WTAF.What?Wait?me?you like me?oh...I'm flattered, thrown off guard, and also he's old.but whatever, I'm trying new things. I'm not tied down.ok sure. I'll go on a date.Also what a misleading trickster... From our first date, to me moving back to Atlanta and buying a house, and seeing multiple people that he knew about. he was patient.there for me when my world turned upside down.we spoke and texted constantly.he came to my Christmas party. by the end of 3 months long distance, frequent phone calls just listening to the other person breathe on the other end,I no longer cared about any of the "state boys." I only wanted to spend time with him. And then my Atlanta house got broken into... it was the catalyst for us. sink or swim baby! we moved in together. The rest is history. My sneaky, patient, emotionally mature, loveable man became my fiancé and soon he'll be my husband and I know I'm making the right choice. there are no second thoughts

His side

now that leah has told you her side...it's time to learn what really happened. (at least, as well as i can remember...after all...i'm old) i remember that day at the bike training a little differently. i walked up to our stunt rehearsal a little late that day...i had to work on a different show that morning. when i got there, i said hi to the folks i already knew...leah was the only one i hadn't ever met. it was covid, and production was very strict about keeping 6 feet of distance between co-workers. next thing i know, this little fireball of energy was next to me...inches from my face. i don't remember what she said...just that she was breaking covid protocols. (she says I can be a "bit of a dick", but i like to think that i'm just a stickler for rules) and she says i "didn't really smile"...how could she tell? i was wearing a kn95 almost the entire time...we could only see each other's eyes... ...she has really pretty eyes... there was something about her spunky, upbeat energy that was intoxicating...and she wasn't half bad at riding a bmx. her birthday karaoke night was a blast. (she left out the part where she tapped my butt while trying to walk past me) and yes, i sang and danced and it was glorious...i'm a goofball at heart. i wasn't pursuing her yet...but i was definitely cutting loose. i had some stress i was dealing with. covid wasn't kind to most relationships, and mine was no exception. while most people were quarantined inside their homes with their significant others, mine was half way across the country building a new relationship. we both saw the writing on the wall... all that time sheltering at home and wearing masks in public can make you brave enough to take your shot with someone who might be a bit out of your league... so I took a leap. can you blame me? i told leah i wanted to grab a drink and chat about some personal stuff. her description of that night is pretty accurate....except she forgot to mention that "malort" is a vile, disgusting liqueur with a bitter taste that is a polarizing rite of passage in chicago. i can't be blamed for anything i might have said after five shots (was that all?) of that abomination. it wouldn't surprise me if she tries to sneak malort into the wedding, so be forewarned! "alright peters, let's give this a shot" - leah a few "mix-cd's" and a couple moves later, and I'm buying a big ole house...banking on having someone to share it with. had i met leah at any other time in my life, it wouldn't have worked. i wouldn't have had the patience to wait out the "state boys". she was a feisty free-spirit with her defenses up, and i was an old dog, prone to excessive sarcasm who was set in his ways. yet, for some reason...it works. we challenge each other...we love adventuring together...we push each other to pursue our individual hobbies, while simultaneously struggling to be apart from each other. it wasn't easy to get here...we both have had some pretty dark periods in our lives...made some choices that seemed right at the time, that had devastating consequences. but without those trials...would we be ready for each other? reminds me of a line from the play "the zoo story" by edward albee:"sometimes it's necessary to go a long distance out of the way in order to come back a short distance correctly." it was a hell of a journey...but leah feels like coming home. can't believe she said yes. let's do this thing, babe!

My advice if you're struggling pick one to two main colors, they can be a lighter or a darker shade of the main color, and pair accent colors around. Like tans, browns, greys etc It should scream pumpkin spice basic latte girl when you're done.

It makes the pictures look awesome, you'll match my bridal party, and I get to have a "theme" even if I wanted zombies and vampires... we all have to compromise. *If this is not possible or out of budget for you (thanks tariffs) you're not going to be kicked out of the wedding!Pinky promise I'll just be happy you showed up :)
