THURSDAY 7/3~Hatchers Pass

10 am meet at the Independence Mine Parking Lot: Leah &amp; Ty will be inviting anyone who is in town to join them in driving up Hatcher's Pass Scenic Drive and stopping at a few places along the way. We want to show you The Independence Mine, it is super fun to walk/ hike around and explore.The Independence Mines, now Independence Mine State Historic Park, is the site of a former gold mining operation in the Talkeetna Mountains, across Hatcher Pass from Palmer, Alaska.It is a rated easy hike that is 1.2 miles. You can extend the hike and go up to Gold Cord Lake, which is beautiful. That is 1.8 and more moderate, hiking up steep rocks, and switchbacks. Hike the Butte @ 9amTyler and Leah will meet you out at the Butte trail, a hike in Palmer, AK that has great views of the town.It is a 2.3-mile out-and-back trail near Palmer, Alaska. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 27 min to complete. Head to Palmer Alehouse for some live music and see the local nightlife. *The wedding is on grass- so choose footwear that is comfortable and if you are wearing heels be mindful on how the heel is*

Places to Go

Places to go and/or stay when you come to Alaska ~*Here are our suggestions if you want to make a trip out of coming up to Alaska* North of Anchorage: Palmer - Where the wedding will take place - 45 minutes from AnchoragePalmer is a town about 45 minutes from Anchorage, AK. It is a cute town with country vibes and is known as the garden hub of Alaska. There are a lot of activities to do here and Palmer is located in a great area where other places are accessible by car. Palmer has different restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, trails to walk, our favorite ice cream shop, and fun things to do! If we were to recommend staying anywhere, Palmer would be it! Glacier View - 1 hour 10 minutes from Palmer- Glacier View 4th of July Car Launch - tentatively planned for 2025- There isn't much else in Glacier View, but the car launch is a fun event- More details, when available, can be found here: <a href="https://www.alaska.org/detail/celebrate-july-4th-in-glacier-view#about" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.alaska.org/detail/celebrate-july-4th-in-glacier-view#about</a> Wasilla/Meadow Lakes - 45 minutes from Anchorage We live in Meadow Lakes, which is on the north end of Wasilla- Wasilla is a city in Matanuska-Susitna Borough, and the fourth-largest city in Alaska. It is located on the northern point of Cook Inlet. The city's population was 9,054 at the 2020 census.- Wasilla has many of the well known stores, such as Target, Walmart, Petsmart, Krispy Kreme, Lowes, Home Depot, Red Robin, Panda Express, etc Talkeetna - 2 hours from Anchorage, 1.5 from PalmerWe highly recommend going to Talkeetna :)Cool Alaskan hippie town with great food, beer, &amp; live music! We love this town! A lot of Alaskan history here. Here, the mayor of the town is a cat. Take a walk along the Susitna River and potentially see Denali Mountain on your drive there! There is the Talkeetna Museum and even take a scenic flight tour to Denali at K2, where Ty is a pilot! Denali National Park - 4 hours from AnchorageExplore the park and see beautiful wildlife, vast wilderness, and the tallest mountain in Northern America! Fairbanks - 5.5 hour drive from PalmerFairbanks is a large city with a university, military base and many stores- Visit Chena Hot Springs - 1 hour past Fairbanks- North Pole, Alaska- Midnight Sun Golf Course Valdez - 4.5 hour drive from PalmerA cool &amp; unique fishing town in Prince William Sound!&nbsp;It's a mix of tidewater glaciers, rainforests, majestic mountains, and wildlife! You can also see a salmon hatchery which is super cool. *** South of Anchorage *** The Drive South from Anchorage ~ Places to Hit Along the Way! <a href="https://www.alyeskaresort.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Alyeska </a>- 1 hour from Anchorage- Alyeska Resort/ Girdwood, AK- Take the Alyeska Tram up the mountain- Eat lunch at the top of the mountain- Alyeska Resort Spa- Cute couple of shops with lunch shops, Alaska homemade crafts and pottery places, too.-Do a cool hike Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center- 1 hour South of ANC Whittier - 1.5 hours from AnchorageWhittier is a one way in, one way out town with a 2.5 mile long tunnel that only can go one way at a time. In Whittier you can see amazing tidewater glaciers and marine wildlife that's easily accessible from Anchorage&nbsp;(just 90 minutes by car). In fact, you'll find the world's largest concentration of tidewater glaciers here. Hope - 2 hours from AnchorageThe charming&nbsp;<a href="https://www.travelalaska.com/node/8391" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kenai Peninsula</a>&nbsp;community is made up of log cabins, gold rush-era relics, and 70 friendly residents who are happy to stop and tell you where to find the best stream to fish or pan for gold. Hope is a great place to base your outdoor adventures in the adjacent&nbsp;<a href="https://www.travelalaska.com/node/10361" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chugach National Forest</a><a href="https://www.travelalaska.com/Destinations/Parks-and-Public-Lands/Chugach-National-Forest.aspx" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">.</a>&nbsp;The community sits at the north end of the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/chugach/recarea/?recid=13398" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Resurrection Pass Trail,</a>&nbsp;a 39-mile route that was originally carved by prospectors on their way to the goldfields of Hope. Seward - 3 hours from Anchorage, 4 hours from PalmerSeward is a port city in southern Alaska, set on an inlet on the Kenai Peninsula. It’s a gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, where glaciers flow. Surrounded by peaks, the fjords are a whale and porpoise habitat. The city’s Alaska SeaLife Center has seals and puffins, and fishing boats fill Seward Harbor. To the west, a trail leads to the summit of Mount Marathon.&nbsp;Hike stunning trails, experience abundant wildlife, paddle and fish vibrant waters. Soldotna - 3 hours from Anchorage, 4 hours from PalmerSoldotna is located at the intersection of the Sterling and Kenai Spur Highways on the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.travelalaska.com/node/8391" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kenai Peninsula</a>, 140 miles from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.travelalaska.com/node/10086" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Anchorage</a>&nbsp;and 70 miles from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.travelalaska.com/node/8671" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Homer</a>, and was founded when the highways were completed in the 1940s. The town is situated around the Kenai River and is a major destination for fishing.Each summer, thousands of Alaska residents and visitors stream into Soldotna on a quest for legendary&nbsp;<a href="https://www.travelalaska.com/node/9086" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kenai River</a>&nbsp;salmon. Homer - 4 hours from Anchorage, 5 hours from PalmerHomer is a small city on Kachemak Bay, on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. A focal point is the Homer Spit, a long strip of land with shops, art galleries, seafood restaurants and beaches. Fishing boats dock at its harbor. Galleries also cluster on Pioneer Avenue, near the Pratt Museum, which shows local art and artifacts, including a pioneer cabin. The Alaska Islands and Oceans Visitor Center has wildlife exhibits. Go halibut fishing or take a boat tour! If you want to extend your trip you could: - Go to Cordova, Alaska (Take the ferry or fly there)- Fly to Katmai National Park- Fly to Lake Clark National Park- Fairbanks (6 hour drive from Anchorage)- Go to a fishing lodge in Southeast Alaska- Drive to Valdez (A cool fishing town, 6 hours from Anchorage) ---&gt; Could take the ferry to Cordova from there-Chena Hot Springs ﻿

We highly recommend getting an Airbnb, bed &amp; breakfast, hotel or motel in Palmer. It will be located close to the wedding and in a good place to access other cool things to see in Alaska! We also suggest renting a car from Anchorage for a few days. Extend your trip by going somewhere else and choosing a second Airbnb/place to explore. Palmer is located centrally to Denali &amp; Talkeetna if you want to go North, and Homer and Seward if you want to go South. If you're looking for Nature/ National Parks/ Cozy town vibe/ and history, go North. If you're looking for more fishing, beachy, ocean/aquatic, boating, sea life sightings type places to see, go South. Both include mountains, beautiful nature, good hikes, fabulous food, and great places to explore. Rent a CarWe recommend renting a car from Anchorage and traveling that way. There are Ubers and taxis in Anchorage, and in most of the towns. There is the Grizzly Cab Taxi in Palmer, too. Car Rental Options: Turo App (Leah's favorite- it's like Airbnb for cars. Rent peoples personal vehicles.
