June 29th, 2024 – Franklin, Tennessee – Harlinsdale Farm.

When it came to proposing, I wanted it to be something special. Leigh Ann and I spent much of the first two years of our relationship in Franklin. I was working/living there, and with the entire world shut down around us (thanks covid) we had a lot of time to really focus on spending time with each other.

June 2024 I was in the middle of switching jobs and would no longer be commuting to Franklin every day. I used this as an excuse to plan a date as sort of a farewell to Franklin. I thought it was pretty clever. Leigh Ann claims it was flashing billboard advertising a reason to propose. I don’t believe her. Either way, we got dressed up to go see some of the places that we’d frequent, have a nice dinner, and go catch a sunset at Harlinsdale Farm.

Leigh Ann is a sucker for a good sunset, and Harlinsdale is a great place to catch one. Historic buildings, rolling hills, and a peaceful ambiance all contribute to this. Generally peaceful anyway. Getting to that in a second.

Once we got to the Farm I got out of the car, hoped she didn’t see me reach into the door for the ring box, grabbed a blanket, and headed out into the field to find a perfect spot – meanwhile scanning the field for the photographer to make sure we were situated perfectly.

We found our spot and sat down to have our peaceful sunset moment when about 100 yards away a rock band cranked it up to 11. Unplanned – the Blackberry Jam festival was happening on this nice summer Saturday afternoon. I sat there hoping that they would find their way into a more romantic song. Honestly, the impromptu concert was very fitting for a Nashville grown relationship.

After a while I asked Leigh Ann to stand up with me, got down on a knee, and asked her to spend the rest of her life with me. Since we’re all here you know what the answer was. I found myself exploding with all of the excitement and nervousness that had to be held in all day. It was perfect. I am so lucky to have her by my side for the years to come.
