Joey and Leticia crossed paths on the campus of Texas A+M University during their respective undergraduate careers. The two were close friends for several years and visited each other often after graduation. Joey had feelings for Leticia but wanted to respect her and their friendship, so he never said anything to her outright. About two years later and three months into a global pandemic, Leticia admitted her feelings for Joey over the phone one evening in late June, and the two decided to give dating a try. Their first date was the Fourth of July, and he asked her to be his girlfriend about one month later.

Months before their anniversary trip, Joey insisted upon booking a particular hotel near the French Quarter while Leticia kept suggesting other places to stay at- little did she know Joey was already planning how and where he would pop the question. They decided on a quaint and idyllic spot named Hotel Provincial, where Joey had arranged for a photographer to meet them in the courtyard. They kicked off their anniversary photo shoot and not too far into the photo shoot, Joey dropped down on one knee and asked Leticia to marry him. She said yes (of course!) and they celebrated at Molly's afterwards (Mr. and Mrs. Stewart's old stomping grounds when they were newlyweds living in New Orleans).
