Friends night out. August 2015, Letisha was on her way home from seeing the midnight premiere of Straight Outta Compton with her best friend. Femi was also on his way home after enjoying the evening with friends. Letisha and Femi locked eyes when he entered her train car at the Boston Aquarium. He even brought her to his friend's attention. However, neither exchanged words even after exiting at Maverick station together. The next day, they coincidentally ran into each other at Maverick station while heading in opposite directions. Eyes locked as Femi made his way to the escalator with the same friend he pointed her out to the prior evening. At the last moment, he told his friend he'd catch up before turning around to politely introduce himself to Letisha. Time stopped during their conversation and ended with an exchange of numbers.
Busy schedules made their first date casual. Letisha told Femi after exchanging numbers that she would be unavailable the following week while she searched for a new apartment. He said they would connect after she got settled. However, Femi reached out to Letisha just three days later with the contact numbers for two realtors. Touched by his sentiment she broke her word to share her apartment search updates with him. A week after first locking eyes, Femi stopped by her old apartment to help her move. However, her parents were at both the old and new apartments and she thought it was too soon to introduce him. Later that evening, he returned to the new residence to help her move boxes over dinner. Letisha planned to have him over at 8 p.m. before excusing herself for a colleague's house warming at 10 p.m. However, their conversation effortlessly lasted until midnight and had swept her off her feet.
Femi had just completed his studies at Suffolk University when he met Letisha and planned to spend his last year in the U.S. researching opportunities with the African Union and United Nations. He discussed it with Letisha and the two agreed to make their limited time together magical. He met her family at Thanksgiving dinner, she met his at church service, before they enjoyed many road trips, beautiful dinners, movies, sip and paints, concerts, BLM protests, Afropunk festivals, and her favorite, book exchanges. Spring of 2016 Femi was deciding on his next move and so was Letisha Femi didn't want the magic to end and suggested a long distance relationship, but Letisha was not interested in a possible international relationship. After Femi accompanied Letisha to her close friend's wedding the two discussed continuing their journey together.
Letisha (kind of) caught the bouquet at the wedding. Long story, but she got it! With Letisha and Femi's respective leases ending, moving in was the nextstep. However, with Letisha's sights on D.C. and Femi's on Nigeria, the two had reached a crossroads. With much prayer they began discussing their future as a shared goal. With their parents' blessing, they decided on an intimate wedding before finding a summer sublet in Malden, Massachusetts.
With their minds made up, the only thing left to do was become engaged!
One evening in July 2016, Femi came home to Letisha and on bended knee, looked into her eyes and poetically said, "Letisha Marie Harris, will you continue this journey called life with me?" She waited to make sure he said everything that was on his heart. Once she was sure he was anxiously awaiting her answer, she excitedly said "Yes!" He then began pacing throughout the apartment, excitedly rambling with endearing terms while grinning from ear to ear.
On July 23, 2016, Letisha and Femi enjoyed a beautiful ceremony in their parent's backyard with a handful of loved ones.
Now the two want their closest friends and family to join them in celebrating their union with a vow renewal after two years of wedded bliss.
