When should I arrive in Oaxaca?

We recommend arriving the Thursday before the wedding to give yourself time to adjust, explore the city, and relax. We'll have some activities available during the day on Friday and a Happy Hour for all guests on Friday night.

What’s the best way to get from the airport to my hotel?

The airport is about 30 minutes from the city center. Depending on where you're staying, you can ask your hotel concierge or Airbnb host to arrange a taxi. You can also use the airport’s official taxi service, which is easy to find just outside the arrivals area.

Should I bring pesos or get them in Oaxaca?

It’s a good idea to have some pesos on hand for smaller purchases, tips, and local vendors. You can get pesos at the airport upon arrival or at ATMs around the city. ATMs often give better exchange rates than currency exchange counters, but check with your bank about any international fees. You can also plan ahead and work with your bank to get pesos before your trip. Most banks need a couple of days to get the cash but you can give them a call and arrange this before you arrive in Oaxaca. Also, don't forget to let your bank know you're traveling!

What will the weather be like?

Oaxaca typically has warm, dry weather, especially in March. We recommend checking the forecast closer to the date and dressing comfortably for the weather.

What should I wear?

Our wedding will be semiformal. We ask that you wear bright colors and plan on looking good. Oaxaca can be warm during the day and cooler in the evenings, so dressing in light, breathable fabrics with layers for nighttime is ideal. Don’t forget comfortable shoes for the calenda!

What is a calenda?

A calenda is a traditional Oaxacan celebration parade, full of music, dancing, and colorful costumes! Typically held for special events (like weddings!), it’s a joyful procession through the streets, often accompanied by large puppets, live bands, and fireworks. It’s a unique way to celebrate and bring good luck to the occasion! We can’t wait to share this experience with you!

Can I drink the water in Oaxaca?

No. We recommend drinking bottled or filtered water to stay safe. Tap water is not generally considered safe for drinking in Oaxaca.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

Not really. Many locals speak at least some English, basic Spanish phrases are helpful!
