Henry and Libby met across a desk in the Virginia General Assembly’s temporary office building in 2020. They had an immediate spark -- even if it took Henry a few weeks to realize it. As luck would have it, Libby’s house was on Henry’s way to work, and her thoughtful boss hadn’t found her parking downtown. Libby kindly informed Henry he would be driving her to work for the remainder of session. Over those first few months they broke a few office norms on the way to falling in love over hotel lobby wine, late night political debates, and bacon on a stick.

Then the COVID pandemic shut life down, and while things got a lot harder for many, they got better for Henry and Libby, as they began, in earnest, their five year long adventure. While Libby went to law school in Durham and Henry worked in NOVA, they put thousands of miles on their parent’s respective Hondas. For Henry, the eight hours on the road were long, but not nearly as long as the week that they had spent apart.

In 2023, at sunset on a rock outcropping over Windansea Beach in La Jolla, Henry asked Libby the easiest question he could think of -- WiIl you marry me?

Along the way they’ve built a life together in Richmond, and acquired a collection of animals affectionately known as the zoo, who will not be making an appearance at the wedding.
