Dan and I first met in passing at band camp. Go ahead and make all the jokes you want, but that was the first time the name Dan Steiner had ever been said to me. Two years passed before I heard that name again.
I was working at the pool, and one day I was behind this guy in the rotation. We were both at the big pool where he was watching the diving board, and I was watching the shallow end and lap lanes. A young girl slipped off the end of the diving board, and hit her shin. Dan being in charge of that end of the pool watched her as she cried a bit on the edge of the pool, and asked if her mom was around and getting the answer of yes, told the girl to go find her. My initial opinion of Dan (based on this interaction - we had yet to figure out we had met before) was not a good one.
However, we began talking, and I realized that he wasn't so bad after all. We realized we had more friends and connections in common than we first realized. Our friendship grew into "hanging out", and I can't leave out the night I spent at his house and got my car towed. I knew after that incident that he would be my rock forever. He kept me calm (which most of you know is hard to do), and he helped me figure everything out.
Dan has been my rock ever since then, and after the initial year of hanging out he finally asked me out. The rest is history...
