Liliana & Travis

August 31, 2025 • Lincoln, RI

It all started when we were kids.

I grew up in Little Compton and Travis grew up in Jamestown and later moved to Riverside, RI. Both of our families were attending a small church in Barrington. This was a 45 minute drive to church every week for my family.

Travis was incredibly shy, and never spoke a word to me. I always thought he was cute, but he never looked in my direction!

When I was 15, my family decided to find a new church. I never thought I would see Travis again. Funny enough, when Travis and I were seniors in high school, I took the SAT at Barrington Christian Academy, where Travis attended—and there he was, taking it too! I thought Travis was adorable! He added me on social media. We briefly kept in touch but the busy season of senior year set in and we went our separate ways.

The summer going into our Junior year of college, the Lord brought us together.

Travis's Perspective

It was during this summer that Lily had caught my eye. I frequently found myself checking out her Instagram page, wondering when or how she got so cute. Given my family's high opinion of the Beauchemin family, and my knowledge of her bubbly personality and Christian character from church together back in the day (yes, I did notice you Lily!), I knew that pursuing her could be an opportunity with great potential.

Naturally, I looked for a shot to reach out and reconnect with her. I waited for the right moment, and it came. She posted a video of a sunset to her Snapchat story. I replied to it, commenting on the sunset (just trying to smoothly break the ice, ya know) and we started chatting away. In the midst of our conversation and me trying to think of how ask her to on a date, Lily had done all the work for me! She asked if I wanted to get together and reconnect some time. Genius! Why didn't I think of that!

So, we did. Even back then, I knew this woman was special, so I planned out (with the help of Mom, of course) a nice little date in Newport for us.

Nothing could have prepared me for seeing her for the first time again. I could not believe my eyes. She was so gorgeous and I genuinely could not stop staring at her (I still have this problem). The date went very well. She was the sweetest, super easy to talk to, felt like a best friend, and someone I could see in my future—little did I know!

Lily's Perspective

On July 26, 2022 I put a picture of a sunset on my snapchat story. Travis realized this was his chance, and responded to my story. I had no idea that he was actually interested in me, and I used this as my chance to ask him how he was doing and that we should catch up! Travis sprung upon this opportunity and planned a date for us.

I was working 60 hours a week that summer and we only had one day, August 1st, that we could hang out before he and his family went on vacation, and I went back to school.

We were supposed to go to the beach, but it ended up raining and we decided to go to Newport, get lunch, and walk the Newport Cliff walk together. We decided to meet at a Dunkin Donuts in Portsmouth, RI before driving into Newport together.

I called my best friend Kate on my drive over. I questioned why I was even going to hang out with him - it's not like we are going to do long distance! I told her.

The second Travis got out of the car, I knew I was done for. He bent down to give me a hug and I was swooning! He opened my car door for me, and even put a water bottle in my door for me. It was the best date I have ever been on - my cheeks hurt so much from smiling!

Afterwards, I realized I left my sunglasses in the car! Unfortunately, there was no time to get them back. I begged my friends at work to switch shifts with me so I could have a free morning. Travis asked if I would go on another lunch date with him. He picked a restaurant that was 15 minutes away from my work so that we could spend as much time together as possible :)

Lily asked to take a photo together after our second date. She wanted to "show her mom", but I know now she really just wanted a picture with me because she had a huge crush on me...

Travis attended Messiah University, in Mechanicsburg, PA. My cousin was getting married in Buckingham, PA Labor Day weekend.

I asked Travis if he would be my wedding date. He drove 2 hours to come out, even though he had school the next day. So Travis met my whole mom's side of the family on our third date!

Who would of thought we would be getting married ourselves on Labor Day weekend, three years later :')

Travis played basketball at Messiah and did not get to go home for fall break. Thus, the next time we got to see eachother was our Thanksgiving break.

Until that point, we would try to facetime for 4-5 hours once a week, almost like a 'date night'. We also would send each other videos back and forth of what we were doing throughout the day, to try to stay connected amidst the long distance.

For our fourth date we went iceskating at Goat Island in Newport!

In the short Christmas break (about 1 week) I got for basketball, I somehow managed to get COVID for the 3rd Christmas in a row. However, I still made time to see Lily and was able to swing a ski trip with with her and her family.

During this trip, I officially asked Lily to be my girlfriend, and the rest is history!

The Lord had made it clear to me, after much prayer and consideration over the last few months, that this was the right step to take. Looking back, we can see His hand in it all and we are both so glad the Lord led us to one another and sustained our growing relationship despite the distance.

Settipane family ski trip during spring break of our Junior year. This was the first time Lily got to spend some serious time with my family. She fit right in! Huge milestone.

Travis, joined by brother Kyle a few days later, visited me at Wheaton College.

At this point, Travis and I both committed to doing long-term summer trips. Travis has the opportunity to travel to Nepal on a missional engineering trip with his school to construct a wheelchair made of parts/materials available to the local community there.

I was able to go on a study abroad in the Middle East and visit Dubai, Abu Dabhi, Jordan, Bahrain, and Israel.

Travis visited me in Wheaton before he left for his trip. I took summer classes while he was in Nepal, and the day that he was coming home (flying out of Dubai), I flew in to Dubai. We did two months of long distance with 7-11 hour time differences!

I got back from my study abroad July 3rd and flew into Chicago. It was an 18 hour drive home to Rhode Island. Travis flew out on July 4th, his day off, to help me drive the 18 hours in one day. We then had the rest of the summer together (only about a month, though) before going back to school :)

On our last full day of summer together, we decided to take a day trip to Block Island. We walked down to the Mohegan Bluffs and we just happened to run into a photographer there.

The photographer then asked us if she could take our pictures for free because she wanted to add to her portfolio (Um, yes please!). They turned out to be absolutely stunning. It turns out the photographer was also a Christian—it is so cool how the Lord works in all of the small details!

Our one-year anniversary! Lily surprised me with a scrapbook with all of our memories from the past year. She had stayed up late for countless nights without me knowing just to finish in time. Such a meaningful gift that I will never forget.

When Travis and I were first talking, we made it very clear that we wanted to 'date to marry'.

Another thing that we talked about was emotional and physical boundaries. We decided that the phrase 'I love you' was not to be taken lightly. We only wanted to declare our love after we prayed, and decided in our hearts that it was the right time.

On March 28, 2024 when Travis visited me in Wheaton for the weekend, he told me he loved me. I am so glad we waited over a year to say that we loved one another. To be loved is to be known, and by that time I felt truly known and loved by him. I knew in my heart that I deeply loved Travis and wanted to marry him.

We both started our jobs!

Lily's job is in Hopkinton, MA. Unfortunately, the lease for her apartment in Boston started September 1st. My family offered to let Lily stay in our guest apartment during this interim period to help cut down her commute.

This was a mutually beneficial situation, though, because Lily became a zero-minute drive away from me— the shortest distance yet!

Lily and I look back on this time very fondly, as it was such a special season getting to spend time with one another and my family as we entered a new chapter of our lives, entering into the workforce.

I wasted no time, and as soon as I got the Beauchemins' blessing and support, I hurried over to the jeweler to buy a ring so I could propose ASAP. Of course, I brought my mom with me to get her valuable insight. Mission success!

I proposed to Lily at Castle Hill in Newport. Lots and lots of planning went into this day, and it panned out better than I could've ever imagined.

I took Lily out to a lunch date at a very fancy location, managed to get her to wear white, and planted a secret photographer all without her suspecting a thing. Her reaction here was 100% genuine, believe it or not! She was completely surprised.

Afterward, I had to keep the secret of a surprise party at my house. I invited both of our closest family and friends over to celebrate, and Lily was, again, completely surprised.

This was such a special day, and looking back, it was just so evident that God was in every detail. It is still so surreal that I have the blessing of getting to marry this girl. All glory to God.
