It all started when we were kids.
I grew up in Little Compton and Travis grew up in Jamestown and later moved to Riverside, RI. Both of our families were attending a small church in Barrington. This was a 45 minute drive to church every week for my family.
Travis was incredibly shy, and never spoke a word to me. I always thought he was cute, but he never looked in my direction!
When I was 15, my family decided to find a new church. I never thought I would see Travis again. Funny enough, when Travis and I were seniors in high school, I took the SAT at Barrington Christian Academy, where Travis attended—and there he was, taking it too! I thought Travis was adorable! He added me on social media. We briefly kept in touch but the busy season of senior year set in and we went our separate ways.
The summer going into our Junior year of college, the Lord brought us together.
Travis's Perspective
It was during this summer that Lily had caught my eye. I frequently found myself checking out her Instagram page, wondering when or how she got so cute. Given my family's high opinion of the Beauchemin family, and my knowledge of her bubbly personality and Christian character from church together back in the day (yes, I did notice you Lily!), I knew that pursuing her could be an opportunity with great potential.
Naturally, I looked for a shot to reach out and reconnect with her. I waited for the right moment, and it came. She posted a video of a sunset to her Snapchat story. I replied to it, commenting on the sunset (just trying to smoothly break the ice, ya know) and we started chatting away. In the midst of our conversation and me trying to think of how ask her to on a date, Lily had done all the work for me! She asked if I wanted to get together and reconnect some time. Genius! Why didn't I think of that!
So, we did. Even back then, I knew this woman was special, so I planned out (with the help of Mom, of course) a nice little date in Newport for us.
Nothing could have prepared me for seeing her for the first time again. I could not believe my eyes. She was so gorgeous and I genuinely could not stop staring at her (I still have this problem). The date went very well. She was the sweetest, super easy to talk to, felt like a best friend, and someone I could see in my future—little did I know!
Lily's Perspective
On July 26, 2022 I put a picture of a sunset on my snapchat story. Travis realized this was his chance, and responded to my story. I had no idea that he was actually interested in me, and I used this as my chance to ask him how he was doing and that we should catch up! Travis sprung upon this opportunity and planned a date for us.
I was working 60 hours a week that summer and we only had one day, August 1st, that we could hang out before he and his family went on vacation, and I went back to school.
We were supposed to go to the beach, but it ended up raining and we decided to go to Newport, get lunch, and walk the Newport Cliff walk together. We decided to meet at a Dunkin Donuts in Portsmouth, RI before driving into Newport together.
I called my best friend Kate on my drive over. I questioned why I was even going to hang out with him - it's not like we are going to do long distance! I told her.
The second Travis got out of the car, I knew I was done for. He bent down to give me a hug and I was swooning! He opened my car door for me, and even put a water bottle in my door for me. It was the best date I have ever been on - my cheeks hurt so much from smiling!
Afterwards, I realized I left my sunglasses in the car! Unfortunately, there was no time to get them back. I begged my friends at work to switch shifts with me so I could have a free morning. Travis asked if I would go on another lunch date with him. He picked a restaurant that was 15 minutes away from my work so that we could spend as much time together as possible :)
We are so excited to celebrate our story with you on August 31st!
