WHAT ARE THE TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS FOR MEXICO?
Us citizens are required to present a valid us passport when traveling to Mexico, as well as proof of anticipated departure date. It is required that your passport be valid for an additional 6 months after the time of arrival.
WHAT IS THE CURRENCY IN MEXICO?
The official currency of Mexico is the Mexican peso, although many resorts and shops take us dollars, too. It’s a good idea to convert at least some of your money into local currency, as you may need smaller bills or coins if you’re souvenir shopping, for tipping, or other things that may come up. In some cases, locals are not able (or are unwilling) to give you change in usd, so you may end up getting short changed if you use USD as your primary spending currency. If you’re going to use USD, bring along smaller bills. Keep your money safe in a fanny pack, money belt, or in the safe in your room. When heading out on tours, only bring along the money you’ll need for the day.
TIPS FOR FIRST TIME TRAVELERS TO MEXICO:
1. Don't get flustered at the airport -lots of travelers tend to get flustered after claiming their bags. The airport is filled with workers trying to sell insurances, rented vehicles, excursions and so much more. This can make the experience a stressful one early on. However, it is so easy to avoid all the hassle. By simply saying “no gracias” a traveler can move freely onto the outside of the airport. It is there where buses await the travelers. You will be provided with all your transport information prior to departure, so you will know which bus (or who) to look for. You’ll be on your way to the resort in no time following this easy tactic!
2. Don't drink unfiltered water -the drinking-water isn’t as bad as other destinations further south and some hotels might make the claim that it’s safe. However sticking to bottled water is the safer option and one a traveler is encouraged to follow. With all inclusive resorts, the bottled water is constantly replaced in the mini-fridge, and you can ask for bottled water at any time. Not to worry as the ice is also properly purified and deemed as safe.
3. Do book excursions at the resort -various agents are usually at the resort ready to book an excursion. They offer a helping hand in insuring the utmost top quality excursion is provided. Locals might lure a traveler into booking an excursion at an excellent rate. The only problem is once the time comes to meet up, the representative is nowhere to be found. This happens quite often. It can also turn into a not-so-safe experience by trusting someone off the resort with hardly any credentials. Instead, stay patient and wait to meet with a proper hotel representative. *as it gets closer to our departure date, check the "things to do" tab for recommended excursions*
