Favorite Museums

The Renwick Gallery,Washington, D.C.

Newly reopened last year, the Renwick contains large scale exhibits featuring amazing examples of craft and textile art. As part of the Smithsonian Institution, admission to the Renwick is free. A list of other Smithsonian museums can be found here: http://www.si.edu/Museums (The Hirshhorn Museum is another favorite, and the National Zoo makes for a nice walk in good weather).

Stabler Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, Old Town, Alexandria, VA

The Apothecary Museum is Lindsay's favorite museum. It's a little strange, but fascinating and steeped in history. There's a $5 entry fee, and the visit is via a 30-minute guided tour. Tours run twice per hour at X:15 and X:45.

Torpedo Factory Art Center, Old Town, Alexandria, VA

The Torpedo Factory houses over 80 studios and galleries for working artists in a historic munitions factory overlooking the Potomac River. Not only may you see some artists in action, but most artists also sell their work at the Factory, making for a good opportunity to pick up something nice if you are so inclined.

Favorite Restaurants

Caphe Bahn Mi, Old Town, Alexandria, VA

Delicious and cheap. We recommend both the Vegan and Grilled Pork banh mi sandwiches.

DC Noodles, U St, Washington, DC

A favorite of the mother of the groom when she comes to town. And for those of you who may be looking for some DC nightlife as well, DC Noodles is a short walk to Adams Morgan and right near the bars and clubs that line 14th St and the U St corridors.

Farmers, Fishers, Bakers, Washington Harbour (Georgetown), Washington, DC

Quite an extensive menu, including pizza, tacos, steaks, and lots of seafood. They also specialize in cocktails, featuring their own line of whiskey and gin.

Patisserie Poupon, Georgetown, Washington, DC

The pastries are delicious in their own right, but what really takes things over the top is the raspberry jam served alongside the croissants. Strong coffee and a small terrace add to the allure.
