Fun fact: Connecticut lobster rolls are served different than most of what you find in New England. For instance if you go to Maine you will likely find lobster rolls are served cold and coated with mayo. In CT we serve our lobster rolls the superior way…. hot and buttered!
First discovered in 1614 by Adrien Block, these islands were used for everything from farming to quarrying granite, from bootlegging to hiding Captain Kidd’s treasure.
The Connecticut River is historic and very beautiful! Connecticut residents love sailing and boating on the river in the summer.

Gillette Castle State Park straddles the towns of East Haddam and Lyme, Connecticut in the United States, sitting high above the Connecticut River. The castle was designed and built by William Gillette (1853–1937), an American actor most famous for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on stage. Gillette lived here from 1919 until his death in 1937. The State of Connecticut purchased the property in 1943 for $29,000.
Block Island transportation is easiest through ferry out of New London and can be a fun adventure! Make ferry reservations online ahead of time.
Drive into New Haven for the afternoon or for dinner! Check out Yale’s campus and many of the awesome restaurants in town. We like Geronimo as well as many of the popular New Haven style pizza spots. Sally’s, Modern and Pepe’s. Just remember there are often longer waits/lines.
If you are looking to try something different, in Connecticut most pizza places will have clam pizza and mashed potato pizza - both are excellent and unique to CT.
Explore Mystic, a quintessential New England town with many shops and restaurants. Check out Mystic Pizza where the famous movie with Julia Roberts was filmed!
Mystic was a significant Connecticut seaport with more than 600 ships built over 135 years starting in 1784. Mystic Seaport, located in the village, is the largest maritime museum in the United States and has preserved a number of sailing ships, such as the whaling ship Charles W. Morgan.
