Hurricaine Maria Is Not Stopping Us - We Are Bringing Puerto Rico Back!

Invited Family and Friends, as you all know we had to postpone our October 2017 wedding due to the catastrophic Hurricane Maria that hit the island of Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands in September 2017.

We were heartbroken at first, but were still determined to have our dream wedding in Puerto Rico and took it as a sign that together we will weather any kind of storm or challenge as husband and wife! So with a lot of postponing, praying and planning...our destination wedding is happening on Thursday, May 10, 2018.

Lisa's and Derick's Love Story!

Picture of Lisa's and Derick's Love Story!
Derick's Version After we both graduated from Norman Thomas High School over 30 years ago little did I know that one of my classmates would actually be my soul mate. Yes, high school gave me championship teammates, lifelong friends, a good education and Lisa - the love of my life! After many years had passed since our high school graduation, we reunited at the high schools closing party and that's when the magic happened! Our first real date was to a New Edition concert (they are my all time favorite R&B group) and that's when I knew Lisa she was going to be my "Candy Girl" and she "Knocked Me Off My Feet" LOL! If you ask me to describe Lisa, I'd say she is smart, beautiful, a "fixer" - who makes things right - just like me - and she also loves my family especially my niece Nahla who we both call "Our Baby"! I look forward to merging our two families into one – it's a perfect fit. I thank God everyday for bringing Lisa into my life! ****************************************************************************************************************** Lisa's Version As many of you have been told because Derick loves to tell people when he's asked "How did you two meet?" His reply is with a sly grin as he leans in and says "You know she's been chasing me for over 30 years?" So, I'm setting the record straight on how we met! Derick and I met in the halls of our high school over 30 years ago but I was in no way "chasing" him", LOL. Although he was one of our high schools championship basketball players, we did not have the same circle of friends. He was a jock in school and I was a lively young girl with great friends and was not in the least interested in any of our schools jocks. Occasionally we would see each other in the hallways and say "Hi" and yes I thought he was a nice guy but…no sparks, at least not yet! Let's fast forward to June 2014 when we saw each other at our high school's closing party. During the party we chatted about mutual friends we realized that we both had, and that's when he asked me to dinner so that we could finish catching up. It was at dinner he casually invited me to attend a parade for his job and then in the evening we would go to the New Edition Reunion Concert at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn. Honestly, I was quite surprised at the invitation because it was a very popular concert and everyone wanted to go to that concert---except me that is! I'm not a big music fan like Derick, but after a few telephone conversations and getting to know more about each other, I accepted his invitation to the concert. After that first concert and date we continued to go out for a few months or so, and I'll admit I enjoyed his company but it was actually during a trip to meet all of his family in Delaware for his lovely Grandmother's birthday that I saw him as the kind, fun loving, respectable man with a great love of family – the kind of man that I could fall in love with and marry. Two years after our first date and concert, Derick surprised me with tickets to another New Edition Reunion concert for our anniversary. This time without hesitation I went and actually enjoyed myself! Unbeknownst to me Derick was actually trying to get New Edition to help him propose during the concert! (You have to ask him to tell you the whole story, it's great!) But it was after the concert at home he proposed and I gleefully said YES!!!!! And I look forward to being his Candy Girl for life! So, it may have taken over 30 years for this happy union, but as the saying goes…"Good things come to those who wait"---Thank God I waited!
