Derrick and Lisa went on their first date in 2015 when they met to ride horses at a local trail. It wasn't in the cards for them at that time. Derrick would periodically check in over the next few years. He would always be there to answer what ever mechanic questions when Lisa would inevitably be stuck by the side of the road on one of her crazy cross country trips. and they found themselves reconnecting several years later. Finally in 2021 Lisa completed her time in Grenada (yes the Caribbean) and came back to Missouri for her final year of vet school. In May of 2021 the two went on yet another first date, on horses again, this time at Derricks farm in Perry, MO. It poured down rain the entire ride but the two being as stubborn as they are didn't let it rain on their parade. They had a fantastic conversation filled ride horseback ride through the woods and around the farm. By the end of the couple hours they were soaked to the core and when they finally dried off went to lunch. After that the two continued to go on wild adventures together. Lisa succeeded in getting Derrick out of Missouri and took him to New York City, San Diego and across the country a couple times all with varies animals in toe. Lisa took an equine speciality internship in San Diego, CA but they didn't let this hamper their relationship, as a matter of fact it grew stronger. Derrick had flown to see Lisa in San Diego several times and on his final trip on March 17th 2023 he had planned something special. Derricks trip was a complete surprise (risky considering Lisa's crazy emergency hospital schedule). Derrick posted up at the barn where Lisa was boarding her horse. Derrick succeeded in surprising Lisa (actually scaring her) when she got off work and was lured to the barn by her intern mate and friend to go see their horses.
