We met in the modern era of online dating ... on Match.com! Lisa had gone on Match.com three days prior to meeting Rob when she and her med school friend Michele came home one night frustrated by the 'quality' of men they were meeting in Newport Beach. So after making each other's online dating profiles (at 1AM!), that quickly led to a date with Rob. He reached out to Lisa saying she was "both smart and pretty" - his type of girl :). He invited her to come play beach volleyball that weekend but of course she was too busy studying for a Genetics final so instead they went on a date the next week to Newport Landing. Lisa thought Rob was flirting with the waitress (four years later, she realized that he is just talkative with .. everyone) but continued to take him up on 2nd, 3rd and 4th dates ... and the rest is history!

The short story: He proposed at the Culver Hotel when my parents were in town, and I was totally clueless! Then we did lots of celebrating :)

The long story: (Lisa) I was finishing up my intern year at UCLA and had been through a long Friday on my Neurology rotation. My parents had come into town for the weekend and I had of course planned a weekend full of fun events for us (little did I know all my planning would be derailed by a proposal!). I got stuck at work until quite late and had to keep pushing back our dinner reservations at the Culver Hotel. I finally left the hospital, called my mom and told her I would rush home, quickly change, and then head over to which she replied "take your time! shower and get dressed!" - subtly hinting that maybe there would be some photos taken of me that night but I was CLUELESS. So naturally I came home, threw on jeans and a t-shirt, no shower, glasses on ... and headed to the hotel. We had an amazing dinner at the hotel and then my parents faked that they were tired and needed to go to sleep. As Rob & I were walking out, I pulled out my phone to call Uber and Rob stopped me saying 'let's just take a minute and hang out in the sitting room' - the second floor of the hotel is an art gallery & has beautiful sitting rooms with couches, chandeliers, candles etc. So we sat down, I kicked my feet up on the (very nice) couch and layed on his lap thinking "this is nice but I'm SO tired and ready for bed!" so a few minutes later I sat up and said "OK now let's call Uber" - to which he looked at me, kissed me, and then started saying all sorts of nice things ... then got down on his knee and I proceeded to look at him and say "What are you doing?" ... He responded "I'm getting down on my knee!" and I said "but why??" ... then he got teary-eyed and it all finally clicked. I was so busy kissing and hugging him that he had to physically remove me from hugging him in order to finally get the ring out! He had planned a gorgeous dinner in Mailbu the next night right on the ocean at Moonshadows and we celebrated all night with his parents, my parents, his sister and her husband. A PERFECT weekend!!
