A Twilight Zone Kind of Love

Liz and Horacio’s story began in the most 21st-century way possible: Facebook Dating. In August 2019, Liz swiped right on a grin that looked equal parts mischievous and trustworthy. Their first date was at an Italian restaurant, and over plates of pasta and nervous laughter, something clicked.

Their second date was… memorable for different reasons. They settled into an IHOP during the Addams Family special and spent four hours talking about everything and nothing—while agreeing that the food tasted exactly like someone had poured liquid sugar over a piece of cardboard.

Horacio knew Liz was different—special, even—when she invited him to a live Rocky Horror Picture Show performance. There he was, half-innocent bystander, half-unsuspecting participant, when Liz gleefully handed him a bag of props and explained the art of shouting at the screen. Afterward, they went hunting through late-night bars for Irish Car Bombs—because apparently, nothing seals a budding romance like a Guinness chaser. By the time the audience had danced the Time Warp and the car bombs had settled in, Horacio wasn’t just impressed. He was smitten.

Over slices of Liz’s homemade cheesecake, they discovered they were both Twilight Zone fans—an eerie, delightful coincidence that would become the backbone of their future traditions. It was also around this time that Liz introduced Horacio to her beloved mini schnauzers, Kami and Kayla. The dogs accepted him with their signature brand of cautious sniffing, which in schnauzer terms is basically a standing ovation.

Horacio met Liz’s family on New Year’s Eve 2019, an evening of nervous introductions and Gomez style interrogations followed by obligatory karaoke. By midnight, it was official: their relationship had begun with the bang of fireworks and the accidental symbolism of a fresh year.

Their first New Year’s Day together set the blueprint for all the ones to come: no raucous parties or forced resolutions—just Liz, Horacio, Kami and Kayla, curled up in pajamas watching the Twilight Zone marathon. The show’s mix of oddity and charm mirrored them perfectly: a little quirky, a little mysterious, and utterly captivating.

Months later, the world flipped into pandemic mode, but their connection didn’t falter. If anything, lockdown only sharpened their knack for finding joy in weird times.

Before their big move to New Braunfels, Kayla passed away, leaving behind pawprints on their hearts and a legacy of quiet companionship. Liz, Horacio, and Kami moved forward as the tightknit trio, carrying Kayla’s memory with them into the new adventure that awaited them.

Adventures soon stacked up like postcards. They embarked on a family road trip to New Mexico with Kami (Floof), who perfected the art of judgy backseat sighs. In Roswell, they posed with alien cutouts and debated which one Floof would most likely abduct. They enjoyed the beautiful mountains and hot springs and knew that they had found in each other a lifelong travel partner.

They wandered the foggy hills of San Francisco, where—like a cosmic gift—both of their favorite rock bands performed a joint concert that left their ears ringing and their hearts even more in sync. They braved the neon chaos of Las Vegas, and explored the mile-high air of Denver, making sure to soak in every adventure with equal parts sporting events (for Horacio) and nature focused exploration (for Liz).

Both Liz and Horacio had been married before and knew what it meant to commit—not out of obligation or tradition, but because they’d found someone who felt like home. Together, they’ve learned that home isn’t a place. It’s the person who laughs at your strangest jokes, who happily shouts at the screen in a room full of strangers, and who makes even the most unpredictable times feel like the best kind of adventure.

And because ordinary just isn’t their style, they’ve chosen to seal the deal on New Year’s Eve 2025, with a wedding that will be unmistakably Twilight Zone-themed. Imagine a celebration where reality bends, time feels delightfully slippery, and Rod Serling himself might raise an eyebrow in approval.

Together, Liz and Horacio are ready for every twist the universe has in store. Whether it’s another spontaneous trip, or their otherworldly New Year’s Eve wedding, they know they’ve already stepped into the best episode of all: their very own Twilight Zone.
