Our Wedding

Back in January of 2016, Lizzie was just getting off work at Cafe du Nord and was headed to Trick Dog for a celebration with her coworkers. On arrival, Alfie, was at the door and before Lizzie and her friends could even get their IDs out, Alfie put his hand up and said, “sorry but we are at capacity we need to wait to let you in…”And not even a minute goes by, when his coworker and dear friend, Matt Melle, lets Alfie know that Lizzie and her coworkers were allowed in. Alfie turns to apologize but before he can get more than two words out, Lizzie stuck her hand out and said “Hi, I’m Lizzie, what’s your name?” From there they took months to get to know each other, friends wondering when they would just pull the trigger, and by February of 2018 they became each other’s person, officially. Over the last 8 years, Lizzie and Alfie have endured a lot together. A pandemic for starters, but loss of family members, and their beloved dog Luna. But with those losses, there was also so much love, with the new additions of Hugo and Poppy to their lives, moving in together and the adventures they have taken together. After all these years it is finally time to celebrate these two getting hitched!

We want everyone to be comfortable first and foremost, and if that means you are comfortable in the most fly outfit you have then bring it on! We want everyone to look their best, having fun in their unique style, so come dressed to impress, (but not better than me, the bride, Lizzie)

Hello!We are still hammering out details but I wanted those to be in the loop with us that are invited to the rehearsal. We are in talks with Grand Lake Kitchen in Dimond to host our dinner. We haven't set a time yet but we just threw out the time frame of 6:30. We'll most likely be at the ceremony site earlier that day, probably around 4 and its about a 10 minute drive to the restaurant if not closer. There will most likely be some downtime in between if folks need to check in or go to where they are staying that evening before dinner. All ages are welcomed to the dinner as well. I know some of you are still figuring out work schedules, no pressure if you can't make it, it won't be hard to fill you all in but ideally we have most of the wedding party with us at the site, but we'd love to have you and your dates there and feed your guys before the big day.

Will kids be allowed?

We love kids, and we especially love YOUR kids, but unfortunately the reception will be a 21+ bar. Even for a private event the space requires everyone to still be of legal drinking age.

Can dogs come?

Another sad no, no dogs or other pets will be allowed. Our dogs aren’t allowed despite us wishing we could have had them apart of our day. So if we can’t have ours, yours will also have to sit this one out.

What should I wear?

We really want everyone to come dressed to impress, but please consider what the weather might be like. The chances of rain are likely so just remember to have a warm coat and shoes that make sense. Both venues for the ceremony and the reception will have outdoor and indoor options. Let’s all just hope there isn’t rain so we can enjoy the temperate Bay Area weather.

What is the parking situation?

We want to encourage as many people as possible to call cars for the evening. The reception will be in downtown Oakland and we would love to avoid the misfortune of a broken window, or anything happening to your belongings. The reception is also near a Bart station if you are local we recommend supporting the bay area rapid transit when you can! However if you do still end up driving, we would highly recommend parking your car in a lot, and I will share closer to the date which lots that are close by are open late enough. MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!!! PLEASE DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! There will be alcohol available and we want everyone to get home safe!!!!

Will the reception have food?

Yes! We will be offering food, and will announce what we are serving soon at The Double Standard, however we still recommend coming to the reception after eating. We just want to make sure everyone has a good time and can go all night with us, as the food provided might not fit all dietary needs.

Why did I only get invited to the reception?

This is our least favorite questions to answer, because in a perfect world we are mega ballers that could invite every single one of you to experience the whole day with us. But sadly, we aren't. The venue for our ceremony has a very limited number of seats available and we reserved those seats for the wedding party, family, our closest friends and for those that traveled overseas. Narrowing that list was the hardest part of planning this whole day because we love each and every one of you and hope that the reception invite still feels like we want you there with us on our day.

Common questions

If you have been invited to the ceremony, we have a hard exit at 6:30, but we will be filing people out of the venue starting at 6, being the first to leave will be the bride and groom and wedding party.We definitely suggest car pooling and getting Ubers together as parking is limited at Double Standard to street parking and we want to highly encourage people to NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. There is no overnight parking at the venue parking lot as an FYI.

Reception!

The reception starts at 7 pm at The Double Standard. Bride and Groom plan their entrance at 7:30 (ish) so try to be their on time if you want to see us boogie on in there together. We will be providing a bar tab for the couples selected cocktails, boilermakers, beer and wine. Anything outside of that you will be asked to start a tab. PLEASE BRING CASH for tips. We obviously will be doing our part but we want to make sure the staff at Double Standard are taken care of. There will be tacos provided between 7-10ish, and there will be a veggie option, chicken, pork and steak. We have been keeping a close eye on weather and we seem to be avoiding rain (yay). We are ready to pivot and hope you guys can rock with us in that venture if it happens to rain. For now, we are so excited to see all of you and please bring your dancing shoes!
