They say marriage is “two best friends doing life together,” and that’s exactly who we are. Our story began in a chemistry study group, and yes, there really was chemistry.
On January 23, 2020, Logan and Sophie met during a General Chemistry study session organized by a mutual friend. If you ask Sophie, she’ll tell you it was love at first sight. If you ask Logan, he’ll tell you he was far too focused on schoolwork to notice anything other than his textbook. Either way, that day was the spark.
At first, we only saw each other occasionally on campus and in passing. But the summer of 2020 changed everything. Sophie made a trip to Grand Rapids to visit a friend and just so happened to “pencil in” some time to see Logan too. From that point on, our friendship grew quickly and deeply.
For the next three years, we were inseparable best friends. We were part of the same friend group, joined in on the same activities, and made countless memories together, like road trips, late-night study sessions, coffee runs, and everything in between. Friends and family kept saying, “You two are going to end up together.” We both laughed, shook our heads, and denied it every single time. (Spoiler alert: you were all right!)
In spring 2023, Logan graduated and moved back to Grand Rapids to apply for medical school, while Sophie stayed in Phoenix to finish her nursing degree. Despite the 2,000 miles between us and a 3-hour time difference, the distance never changed our friendship. We talked every day, cheered each other on, and leaned on each other through the ups and downs.
In the spring of 2024, Sophie graduated and moved back home to Columbus. One night, during one of our many long phone calls, the conversation turned to our friendship. That’s when Logan asked Sophie out on a date. (FINALLY!)
Dating long-distance meant getting creative. We met halfway in cities like Ann Arbor, Toledo, Fort Wayne, and even Indianapolis. We had FaceTime dates where we’d cook the same dinner, watch the same movie, or surprise each other with a DoorDash delivery. And on free weekends, we’d make the five-hour drive just to spend time together.
After nine months of dating, Logan proposed to Sophie on May 23, 2025, in Columbus.
Now, life has brought us back to where it all began, together in Phoenix. Logan is in medical school; Sophie is working as a surgical nurse. Instead of being 5 hours apart, we’re just 2 miles down the road from each other!
As we step into marriage, our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for the story God has written. What began as a simple study session turned into a friendship that shaped our college years, a bond that carried us through long distance, and ultimately, a love story we never could have scripted ourselves. We cherish the joy of realizing that our best friend had quietly become our forever love.
Now, as we begin this new chapter as husband and wife, we are both excited and humbled. Excited for the adventures, the laughter, and the ordinary moments that will make up a lifetime together. Humbled that God chose to weave our lives together in such a beautiful way.
Our story is still being written, but one thing we know for certain: whatever the future holds, we’re grateful to walk it hand in hand, trusting the One who brought us here.
“No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is made complete in us.” – 1 John 4:12
