Logan & Carmen

Logan Michael Sylvester decided to attend Benedictine College in the fall of 2020, somewhat reluctantly, with the encouragement of his parents to enrich his faith and his best friend Josh Hillier who would soon become his roommate. With Covid throwing a wrench in her plans to pursue her nursing license, Carmen Marie Payne also found herself in Atchison Kansas, pursuing an ROTC sponsored BSN. Their friendship sprouted at the traditional "Beanie Banquet" thrown for freshman at the end of their orientation week, talking about their families, their mutual interest in the works of Tolkien, their shared homeschooling background, and their big Catholic families.

This friendship grew and blossomed throughout first semester with a friend group calling itself "The 3 AM Club," due to their meeting on an especially late night. The pair went on their first date in second semester, going roller-skating and enjoying Mexican food. They had several more small town adventures together, visiting antique stores, enjoying late night donuts from Daylight Donuts, dancing, and cooking together.

After freshman year Carmen enlisted in the Army Reserves as a 68C and completed basic training in Fort Sill Oklahoma followed by her LPN license from October of 2021 to February of 2023 in Fort Sam Houston and Fort Bliss in Texas. Logan entered the Architecture program at BC and developed his skills and his artistic eye. The couple kept in constant contact, sharing visits on long weekends, holidays, and special occasions. During this time their prayer together and individually deepened their love for each other as well as Christ and Saint Joseph. They learned about each other's communication styles and love languages, deepening their friendship.

Carmen returned to Kansas in March 2023 and currently works in Leavenworth Kansas as a Psych nurse in St John's Hospital. Logan will graduate from the Architecture Department in spring of 2025. Logan and Carmen are overjoyed to be sharing their upcoming celebration with their dear friends and family, please join them in prayer as they prepare to receive the sacrament of holy matrimony.
