Q + A
What will the wedding be like?
Weddings in Vietnam are more like a formal dinner party. The couple will actually be married at the courthouse a few weeks or months before the wedding ceremony. There is typically a full dinner served (around 6 courses). The couple will be on stage and do a champaign toast, cut a fake cake and then go around and take photos with all the tables. People will get up on the stage and sing Kraroke way too loud during the photos and dinner.
If the wedding starts at 11am people will get there anytime between 11:30am and 12:00pm. The ceremony will last about 30 minutes and lunch will last from 12:30pm to 1:30ish and people will start leaving at about 1:15pm before lunch is even finished.
Gifts will never be given but instead people give envelopes with money. At the front as people arrive they will put money in the envelope with their name on the envelope.
Dress code
Wedding Dress code in Vietnam is quite relaxed. Men generally wear slacks and a polo shirt but jeans, t-shirt and sandals may make an appearance. Women generally wear a dress.
Will I need a visa?
Yes, Americans must get an Evisa as of Feb 2024. You can apply on the official website - https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/web/guest/trang-chu-ttdt
You might want to apply 2 months out give or take incase things change visa wise before then.
What will the weather be like?
Generally rainy season finishes at the end of November but can hang around through December. Hopefully the weather is nice but it may rain. You can buy an umbrella locally for cheap.
Are there other places to visit near Da Nang?
If you're coming all this way I recommend spending some additional time outside of Da Nang as the city is quite small and you can see everything in 3 or 4 days.
Bangkok is a 1 hour flight away and is about $100 round trip flight.
Japan and Hong Kong both have Disneyland's there if you want to experience that and since it will be near Christmas they should have decorations up.
Bali Indosnesia isn't far away and may be an interesting place to visit with beautiful beaches.
Singapore - if you haven't been to Singapore before I highly recommend checking it out as it is quite exquisite and a beautiful place to see.
What can I eat of I don't like Vietnamese food?
In Da Nang there is an area called An Thuong that is mainly western food. There is also pizza hut, KFC and McDonald's here if you would prefer that. Local vietnamese food can be about $1-$3/meal and western food can be around $5-10/meal
What is the exchange rate?
1 USD is 24,000 Vietnam Đông.
So about 100k is about $4.

Can you tell me about Hang?
Hang was born in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam (About 3 hours south of Hanoi) in 1987. She put herself through University in Da Nang and is currently the Director of business development at Chubb Life Vietnam (health insurance company). She has 2 kids (her 7 year old daughter live with her). She is very fun spirited, warm and giving. She loves to laugh and watch movies as she saw her first western movie just over 1 year ago. She works very hard usually 10 hours a day 6 days a week which is customary in Vietnam. I look forward to you all meeting her soon!
