Austin Travel Guide

Enjoying a weekend in Austin

Activities

November is one of the best months to get outside in Austin. We recommend engaging in a quintessential ATX activity, like paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake or lounging by Barton Springs Pool.

Kids will also love visiting Malin the Troll and playing in The Treehouse at Pease Park, or exploring the many trails at Zilker Botanical Garden.

You can also take a free tour at the Texas State Capitol or pop into the Blanton Museum of Art for a range of exhibits, including interactive ones.

One of our favorite local tours will take you through The Driskill, one of the oldest hotels in Texas and a site chock-full of fascinating tales (including a haunting or two).

Where to eat

One of our favorite parts about living in The Capital City is the incredible food we get to eat on a daily basis. We could go on and on with recommendations, but here are our go-to spots:

- Better Half Coffee and Cocktails/Hold Out Brewing: These two businesses share a site, and are a great walk-in, casual option for brunch, breakfast, or lunch.

- Loro: This might be our most-visited restaurant in Austin. We love the expansive patio, laid-back atmosphere, and Asian barbecue fusion.

- Easy Tiger: Dig into house-made bread and bar foods — don't miss the rooftop upstairs with views of the Greenbelt.

- LeRoy and Lewis: If you're looking for some great barbecue, head here. (P.S.: They also have one of the best burgers in the city.)

- Veracruz: If you're looking for a quick, grab-and-go option, these taco trucks across the city are some of our favorite spots. Head to the one at Radio Coffee + Beer for an expansive patio, a coffee bar, and other food options.

- Jester King Brewery: This spot has acres to explore, a herd of Nigerian dwarf goats to play with, and great beer.

Nightlife

The most popular areas of Austin for nightlife are Sixth Street, Rainey Street, and South Congress Avenue. However, our favorite spot to grab a drink in ATX is in East Austin, where you'll find local go-tos like Whisler's, Cosmic Saltillo, and Nickel City.
