Our Wedding

Both of our apartments come together and become a group of close friends, spending much of our free time together.

We officially start dating on January 21st, 2016

For the next year and a half we live together on campus pursuing our degrees, exploring Oahu, making friends, and creating lifelong memories.

As Lorelei finishes up her final semester, Josh works and lives aboard the Norwegian Pride of America cruise ship, a weekly voyage touring the Hawaiian Islands.

Our time living in Hawaii comes to an end and we return home to California residing with The Valmonte Family. Pasadena becomes our home for the next year.

We make the tough decision to take some time apart and focus on ourselves and families. Despite the decision, we do not lose the love we once had for one another, and think of each other often during this break.

We Start Anew

Through the help of a friend, we find a place together in the rolling hills of Oceanside, CA where we begin building our first home.

We venture to Thailand and spend an incredible two weeks exploring Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi &amp; the Phi Phi Islands.

And yet, our story has only just begun..

Given the cultural significance of our venue, we hope our guests are inspired to choose more traditional Hawaiian attire. Below are some photos for inspiration to help. For our gentlemen, please wear a traditional-feeling aloha shirt. These shirts often boast large, bold florals (such as hibiscus or palm leaves) accompanied by surrounding patterns. Please refrain from wearing faux aloha shirts, which often have busy patterns including cars, surfboards, or other types of inanimate objects. Tan slacks are recommended but please refrain from wearing jeans. Shoes can be casual or formal, but please no sandals. For our ladies, have fun with a semi-formal tropical and/or vibrant maxi dress or two piece ensemble. Patterns or florals, fitted or flowing, short or long, whatever you choose - we just hope it's colorful, bright, and something you feel good in! *Disclaimer: Please keep in mind that weather in Hawaii can be unpredictable. Bringing a light jacket just in case is highly recommended.

ACCOMMODATIONS: We want this trip to be as much yours as it is ours - make it into your own vacation! We are grateful to those of our family and friends able to make the trip, and know destination weddings can be tough to attend. We understand our selected wedding venue is a distance from Honolulu, and will require most of our guests to travel about an hour therefore we believe it is in our guests' interest to rent a vehicle or carpool with others. While the drive seems far logistically, it is a very scenic route and a great way to see other parts of Oahu! With this in mind, we hope you select accommodations according to an area most suited to your enjoyment.

A family favorite, this restaurant by the sea was established to honor the late Hawaiian legend, Duke Kahanamoku. Born on August 24th, 1890, Duke is recognized as the pride of Hawaii. At 21 years old, he broke multiple world records and became a decorated Olympic swimmer. Duke is also widely known for introducing the world to surfing, having popularized the sport into what we see today. He was the first person to be inducted into both the Swimming and Surfing Halls of Fame and will always be remembered as an ambassador of aloha. Come grab a drink and bite to eat, while enjoying some live local music along the beautiful beach and shore of Waikiki, where Duke swam and surfed nearly a 100 years ago. The Bride &amp; Groom's favorite menu item is a vodka-based drink called a Chi Chi - the perfect blended drink for a warm hawaiian afternoon!

Marugame Udon is an ABSOLUTE must for anyone who loves Japanese noodles. Keeping with authentic noodle making tradition, chefs at Marugame prepare fresh sanuki style udon noodles right behind the counter. Noodles are served in a delightfully light and flavor-packed broth, and can be accompanied by a number of fresh tempura items if you choose. A personal favorite of the bride's is the tempura fried sweet potato wedge! Or, if you're in the mood for something a bit more salty, their spam musubi is a delicious option! This was a frequent pick for us while we were living in Hawaii during our college days. Don't be deterred by the line or seating.. we promise it moves fast and seating opens up just as quick! It is WELL worth the wait!

Centrally located steps from Waikiki Beach, the Honolulu Zoo is open 10:00am - 3:00pm daily.

Escape into Manoā Valley's rainforest to a world full of lush tropical scenery. The trail is an easy, kid-friendly hike that is only 1.7 miles long, and has a beautiful 150ft waterfall with a small swimming hole at it's base.

Mānoa Falls Trail

Located on the windward side of Oahu, Lanikai boasts two islands called the Nā Mokulua, or "mokes" off it's coastline, making this beach particularly picturesque. With soft white sandy beaches and calm wading waters, Lanikai is a top pick of ours to visit. For an even better view of the coast and the mokes, try a quick hike up to Lanikai's Pillbox.

The Kaʻiwa Ridge Trail, or more commonly known as the Lanikai Pillbox Hike, is a 1 mile roundtrip hike that takes approximately 1 hr total. A short and easy 30-minute hike up and you'll find yourself with an incredible view of Lanikai Beach and the Nā Mokulua islands.

Located just across from our wedding venue is Waimea Beach Park. This small but mighty beach is more for the adventurous swimmer, with the rock being a popular jumping spot for locals and thrill-seekers. If you're looking to surf or sit and watch some nice waves, this is a great beach. However, we would not reccommend this beach for those looking to swim or snorkel. *In the photograph you can see Josh jumping off the rock before a beautiful sunset.

Waimea Bay Beach Park

A beautiful white sand beach located at the base of the Koolau Mountains on the windward (east) side of Oahu. This beach can get busy with locals on the weekends, but is a great option for families looking for calm, warm waters with palm-shaded grassy lawns.

Kaiona Beach Park

The Polynesian Culture Center offers visitors the chance to immerse themselves in six Pacific island cultures - Hawaiian, Aotearoa, Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti, and Tonga. The Center is open from 12:30pm - 9:00pm, five days a week (Closed Sun/Wed). They offer a variety of activities, including performances, hands-on learning, skill building, ancient games, dance lessons, as well as various Lua'u dining experiences.
