Just two goofballs

On a cold December night, Lori was at her wit’s end with dating apps, and went on a deleting-boys rampage. She was determined to go on a dating hiatus, but just like closing up a bag of chips, she let one more in, “Just oneee moreee before we put them away…” she thought. She was down to a cute, happy looking boy, who had a great big smile. Well, it was pure luck that he was the last one on the chopping block, and it became both of their last dating app experience. They engaged in small talk and agreed on meeting up.

Coming back to California from the East Coast, both Lori (Connecticut) and John (Canada) met up the first week of January, and had a very jet lagged but fun first date. Neither of them had very much stake in each other initially as both had been disenchanted by dating apps; but with cautious optimism, they had a pleasant time and agreed to meet up again. After about two months of hanging out like friends and just having plain simple fun, nothing expected, they realized that there might be more there than they thought!

The biggest signifier that they were truly compatible was their ability to crack each other up. Cry-laughing level stuff. Also, they both use goofy voices, loved the same kind of memes, love of the same funny TV shows and comedians; and they had the same approach to life: just find the funny thing during the struggles. It was the realization that even when there are bumps in the road, they wanted to be there for each other, and laugh their way though life’s stressors.

After being together non stop for 2 years; Lori and John having talked frequently about a future of marriage and kids together, John popped the question. Lori never thought he would ACTUALLY get down on one knee this fast! But on a cold Canadian night after Christmas, John took Lori to a hotel overlooking the Niagara Falls, for what he made out to be a “Christmas present”, and surprised her by being on bended knee with a ring out. She said “YES DUH” and here we are, doing paper work for a legally binding and life long contract of being sweethearts.
