It started the way every young, beautiful love story begins...

On a cold, blistery night in March 2018, Lucas and Martina serendipitously swiped right on each other's Bumble photos. A photo of Lucas with the B's and a drink spill on his shirt. And a photo of Martina in a Pens jersey at a Senators playoff game.

Yet, it was not love at first swipe. Some concern weighed on Lucas' shoulders. By the looks of her photos, I think she may be too tall for me. Little did Lucas know what a silly thought that was. Sensing something there, they exchanged messages over a couple weeks before fate stepped in... or perhaps it was the luck of the Irish?

If you aren't in Ireland celebrating St Patrick's Day, the only other acceptable option is Ezra St. in Waterloo. Unbeknownst to each other, Lucas and Martina both went up to celebrate with friends. After a quick sleep and rally, Lucas was racing to catch up with his friends who already left for Phil's, while Martina was meeting up with her group on Pub on King. As he turned on to King, they almost collided. The only two on the sidewalk. After they initially locked eyes, the light went off. The one from the photos...

Hey, I think I'm messaging you right now?

And sure enough, she was right. Having not known the seismic impact of this moment, they chatted for a few minutes before heading their separate ways. Lucas celly'd in his mind, as he finally learned she was, in fact, short; and decided to ask her out the following week.

And the rest is history.

Well... the rest is actually about five and a half years of beautiful memories. Over 3 years of long distance, trips to Europe, the East Coast & Australia, and countless drives to the Soo in between. Time spent with family and friends and building a life together.

So while the first chapter may started on a screen, the next began when Lucas got down on one knee surrounded by candles and rose petals.
