Our Wedding

Once upon a time in a far off land called Utica High School came a small gathering at a home of several friends of the two unexpected young people that would meet with a simple, “Hello” and from that very moment their entire life would change; and it did. Here is their story in a very-short moment. Yes that’s all it took just a moment and that one hello as their eyes connected so did their hearts in a way only a few will ever be able to say they experienced in a lifetime. Yes they were young, she a Freshman and he a Senior. From that very moment they spent every minute together, he walked her to every class, carried all her books and he loved her so so much and she loved him with her heart and soul. They would spend countless hours on the phone -stretching the spiral cord straight just to be alone to talk. Door closed and siblings pounding on the door to get off the phone; all you heard was joy and laughter from behind the door. Then they’d hang up with a simple, see you soon- Love you Blue Eyes ( that’s what she called him). He would ride his bike to her house after school no matter the weather - (we all didn’t have our parents giving us cars back then…) about 10 miles each way and those bikes weren’t fancy like they are now. Just to have to turn around an hour later to be home by curfew. Yet he didn’t miss any chance he could to come see her. She cried every time he left. “Never enough time she’d say. “ They could talk for hours about anything and everything. They alway made each other smile, and that always made life better. She knew at this young age that he was the one that would be her forevermore. He knew he would ask her to be his wife. They talked about the home with the white picket fence they’d have one day and what they’d name their children. How they’d be grandparents on the porch swing watching the children play…drinking sweet tea. Just like that the chain broke on the swing and the tea spilt and all those dreams came to an abrupt end. Someone with good intentions, I’m sure; had other plans and decided that their parents should know that there was a great age difference between them; which at that time was not proper. Her dad would definitely not allow it and so their love story and their friendship came to a painful end. He was placed to another school and she was sad for a very very long time. They were forbidden to be with each other. Yes, of course they seen each other through the years at parties, both with other people as they glanced across the room at weddings, funerals then came Facebook. They even had an opportunity to talk here and there but they never disrespected the fact that life changed for the both of them. Whether they were married, single or what ever the case was at that specific time in their life. Always, respectful of each other’s families and present lives. He still remained a gentleman and always kind. He was still her friend, her best friend after all these years and she was still his. Through all the ups and downs in both of their lives, they always knew they could reach out just to say, “Hello” if they needed to feel grounded for just a moment, a simple “Hello” is all it took. Once upon a time in a land of sadness and uncertainty a close friend of theirs brought them back together. Irwin Fish (aka-FishyPoo) unfortunately, he was in hospice care and Richard had called her to let her know she needed to come say goodbye. Her heart lay heavy with much at this time in her life but she knew she needed to go. He knew that she wouldn’t want to go by herself, he would be there for her. She met him at Irwin’s home so they could visit with him together, what a surprise for Irwin it would be seeing them together. She hadn’t seen Irwin or Richard in years. She stepped out of the car and started walking toward Richard. Her heart pounding from fear and uncertainty, He put his arms around her and hugged her so strongly, all she knew at that moment is her heart felt like it was Home. She didn’t want him to ever let go. But she knew this was just for a moment, unknowingly that they were both single. As time went on he came to visit her and they began to laugh and find joy again. They let down their guards and they began to talk about life, broke down the 40 years of life between them. What they’ve become, their short comings and their accomplishments. There were no secrets. All was told the good and the not so good and that was ok. This is who they are now and to find out they are just an older and wiser version of who they were then. Two older people that love unconditionally, with all of their hearts, love their kids, siblings, Mothers and extended family like no other. Their friends are their family blood is not what makes a family. They are from the same vine and it is a good one. They may not be rich and have all the fancy things in life but they will always have the most important thing of all each other and their families. Richard wanted to say, “We still have good sit down conversations and still have that feel good together joy when we are together and automatically get that smile on our face. That’s hard to come by. We can talk about anything or absolutely nothing and it’s all good as long as we are together.” Once upon a time there was a young girl and a young man that were forbidden to love and after living 40 years in separate directions they found their way back home with an unconditional loving hug and a simple word, “Hello.” Two arms wrapped around each other and called it HOME. As we finish our love story together with our children and our grandchildren. We are grateful for the years that taught us so much and the blessings of our children and the rest of our lives together ♥️ Our family, Our friends, Our life and Our Home ♥️ Thank you for being part of our Circle of Family and Friends ❤️

What is a Bride to say, if my dad couldn’t walk me down the aisle, I wouldn’t have anyone else but my brother Jimmy. He is my protector with a strong hand, my comfort in times of sorrow and he remains the calm amidst the storm unless He is the storm.  This day he will walk in my dad’s shoes -  I am honored that I will take his arm.

I’m pretty sure that Jen is my sister and my parents forgot to tell me. She is an incredibly smart person, and as kind and beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. I have been so blessed to have her in my life she can make me smile when no one else can - we welcome Jen as our Matron of Honer know if things start to go a rye she will be kicking some ass! That’s for sure!

Jerry is Richards brother and best friend. They have been through a lot together. Jerry is a good man, kind, honest and a hard worker which is hard to come by these days. If you don’t want an honest opinion then don’t ask him because honesty is what you will get. I am proud to call him my brother in law.

Sherry has been part of my life for many a year. She has a heart of gold and no matter how much time goes by we always know that no matter what; we are there for each other. Now she is apart of our life and we are very blessed to have her in our new beginning and Happily Ever After ❤️
