Lucy & Navid spent the better part of nine years in Norfolk, Virginia frequenting the same coffee shops, artisan markets, concerts, and events but somehow only knew one another in passing. This is a pretty common thing if you’re from the Hampton Roads area, everyone generally “knows” everyone. A short-lived service job brought the two together for brief introductions in 2015, they navigated the following years running in similar circles but the timing wasn’t right.

Four years later on Saturday June 15th, 2019 the summer air had started to set in. It was a cool breezy evening on 21st street & Pacific Ave where Lucy would turn around to see Navid at a Budos Band concert. They locked eyes, smiled and spent the evening exchanging glances intersecting the chatter of mutual friends around them.

Now, Navid might have messaged Allee, Lucy's friend, to pry about their plans that evening, and Allee may have told Lucy about the inquiry immediately, which may be the sole reason Lucy showed up that night, definitely maybe.

They would spend that summer speaking, seeing one another out in town, impromptu coffee breaks and boba tea deliveries to Lucys shop. They cultivated a connection over that summer through art music and general lounging in public parks. Until one morning, Lucy woke up to a text message from Navid.

“I don’t think you’re supposed to wake up thinking about your friends.”

And, the rest as they say, is history. . .
