Once upon a time in the bustling streets of London, a police officer and a builder crossed paths. Lucy was keeping the city safe, and Phil was making it look good—though he insists she was the one who caught his eye first.

What started as a planned encounter by childhood friends Kirsty and Bob, the 3 day long first date quickly grew into something special. Phil said it was love at first sight, and between Lucy’s knack for solving puzzles and Phil’s talent for building just about anything (including the courage to ask her out), their connection was undeniable.

Lucy’s love of travel has been the spark behind so many of their adventures—some more glamorous than others. While Phil was initially convinced that “seeing the world” meant enjoying infinity pools at five-star resorts, Lucy gently (okay, maybe not so gently) showed him the joy of seeing the real world, enjoying street food, and the occasional dodgy hot spot. Now, thanks to Lucy, Phil knows how to appreciate both a luxury hotel robe and a questionable tuk-tuk ride in the middle of nowhere. Together, they’ve learned to embrace every experience—because nothing says romance like sharing a backpack full of snacks and hand sanitizer.

Fast forward a few years, and these two Northeners are now building a life together in Manchester, filled with dogs, the love of families, friends and plenty of DIY projects. From our adventures in the city to cozy nights at home, every moment has brought us closer to this exciting new chapter. Now 8 years later, after Phil needing a few nudges, he finally proposed in the most romantic and memorable location.
