Our Wedding

I met Luis as a teenager in church back in 2017. I remember the first time I saw him. It was a Thursday night service and We had sat in one of the rows toward the very back of church, I remember seeing him walk in with his family during worship. For just a split second I had a fleeting thought when I saw him “what if this is my future husband”, that I then proceeded to laugh off in my head because it was ridiculous I had never even met this person and was probably never going to see him again. To my surprise him and his family actually ended up staying and attending our church for the following years, I never really put much attention to that fleeting thought again after that first time. We didn’t speak until a few services after when I introduced myself to him and his family, he was very reserved and quiet. I didn’t know if he was that way because he was shy or just genuinely didn’t care to converse with anyone, but either way, I was curious. Even though our interactions would be minimal over the year that followed, I enjoyed occasionally poking at him to see if I could get some kind of reaction. But despite my general curiosity I wasn’t really looking in his direction in that way and to be fair I don’t think he was either. My 16th birthday had come around that following year and I had decided to have a birthday party where I would invite all of the youth from church including him. For work reasons he had not been able to make it and I remember oddly feeling disappointed. The day after was a Sunday and He had come up to me after church and handing me a gift bag he said “I’m sorry for not being able to make it to your birthday party but I got you a gift. “I thought it was sweet that he had taken the time to buy me something even though he didn’t go to my party. Even though I was a little confused at his gift choice. I didn’t understand why he would give me a room spray that smelt like cologne. I thought maybe he just grabbed it without smelling it, in a last-minute resort of not knowing what to get me. But that theory was debunked after I asked him if he had smelt the spray and he said yes. I was intrigued, there had to be some thought behind it if he knew so I wondered if maybe it was on purpose. If he wanted it to smell like cologne so I would think of him any time I sprayed it. (my theory was later confirmed correct). In which case I guess his plan worked because after that I started realizing he might have feelings for me, especially if he had gone through all that thought behind a simple gesture. All though his method was different I must admit it was effective. Shortly after we began talking more, our conversations got longer and he quickly became my best friend, the person I wanted to talk to if anything good happened, if anything bad happened I wanted to share it with him, he became my person. Only there was a slight problem was we were still too young, and we knew it wasnt the correct time for a relationship, so we agreed to maintain a friendship until we were practically ready to get married. During this time our feelings for each other grew immensely, I watched him grow into the incredible man he is today. I grew with him, and we grew together, we laughed together, we cried together, we prayed together, and most importantly learned to love together and there is no person I would rather have gone through all of that with than with him. In July of 2023 we became “official”, even though him and I had been official to each other for some time now. On December of 2023 Luis told me to get dressed up because we were going on out and it was a surprise and boy was it a surprise. When the day finally arrived, my best friend drove me to the meeting place. I was a little confused when we arrived because it was dark outside and the only thing around were warehouses. My best friend walked me into one of the warehouses where I saw Luis waiting for us in a black suit and I forgot all about my confusion. He walked me outside through the back door of the building, where I then saw a tarmac and a little airplane! we were going on an airplane ride over the city of Dallas, and it was so incredibly special. While in the air the pilot asked me to look out the window, where I saw big lit up letters on the ground that said “Marry me”, I turned around and Luis was looking at me with the ring I had been dreaming about, asking me to be his wife. I am so incredibly thankful that God crossed our paths and gave me in Luis exactly what I needed and just didn’t know it yet. I am so excited to get to go through this journey with Luis and I cannot wait to see what God has in store for us.

Her side of the story 

Grace and I first met in church around 2017, When my family and I had just moved from Marshall Texas. We had been watching the online services from this church in Dallas for a while, so when we moved to the area, we knew we had to visit. I was a teenager trying to navigate moving to a new area with new people, it was a completely different environment for me and to be honest the last thing I was thinking of or expecting was to meet someone. I Didn't expect that Immediately upon walking into church, she would catch my eye but there she was sitting in the back row of this church completely unaware of me, or so I thought at least. I didn't realize the significance of that moment at the time, but I'm glad we stuck around. A couple services later she came up to my family and I to welcome us and introduce herself, she had a curiosity about her that had me intrigued. We didn't really talk a whole lot after that, and when we did, I couldn't really tell if she was just being nice to me or if she was genuinely interested in getting to know me. Over the next year or so she would occasionally joke with me, she had a way of trying to get a reaction out of me, which I found both amusing and endearing. About a year had passed and she was having a birthday party, I honestly didn't expect to get an invite being the new kid and all but I did. I was pretty bummed whenever I wasn't able to get the day off at work and had to miss it, but I wanted to make it up to her, so I decided to get her a gift anyway. If you ask her, she can tell you that my gifting definitely needed some help, but I hoped she would appreciate the gesture despite its simplicity. I was anxious to see her reaction the next day at church whenever I gave her the gift, I also hoped that my gesture might hint at my feelings and spark something in her. Happy to say it worked. We started talking more after that and started getting really close, we faced a lot of obstacles and challenges early on with our age and expectations of our families. We quickly decided to keep our growing feelings under wraps and just be friends, knowing that to each other we were much more but we needed to wait. Our bond only strengthened as the years went by, she became my ever-growing supporter, my cheerleader and my best friend. In July 2023 we finally decided it was time to make our relationship official. But at that point I was ready for her to be much more in my life. So, I prayed and I planned for the next big step in our relationship. With the blessing of God and of her dad, I prepared to ask her to be my wife. I had been planning for months, I wanted the proposal to be special and memorable. So, on December 30 with the help of her best friend I asked her to get dressed up because we were going out. I didn't want to give her any details, so I asked her friend to drive her, while I waited for them at the location. I had booked an airplane ride over the city of Dallas where the pilot was instructed that on a specific location the plane would be tipped Sideways, and she could see out the window. We had placed a lit-up spot that said marry me, and in the air, I asked her to be my wife. I am so blessed to be able to take this journey with my best friend and soon to be wife. Can't wait!
