Luke and Amy first met Luke's freshman year and Amy's sophomore year after a daily Mass at Carroll College. They quickly became good friends through serving at the local soup kitchen in Helena (shout out to Kenna Kleinschmit for introducing them). At first, the two had no intentions of dating each other, as Amy was discerning religious life and Luke wanted to enter seminary. Amy says though that she always thought Luke would be a good person to date from the moment she saw him. In Luke's sophomore year, discernment things had changed, and Luke ended up asking Amy out on a date. She politely declined, telling him that while she thinks she would like going on dates with Luke, she needed to keep discerning religious life. Luke claims this was the most honest and joyful rejection he has ever received. Amy stayed on his heart, even though she said no, and apparently, Luke stayed on Amy's heart too. Towards the end of that school year, Amy had some discernment things change too, and religious life no longer held as strong a draw on her heart. The two continued spending time with each other throughout this year, all of which culminated with greater feelings for each other. Luke, though, not knowing that Amy's discernment had changed, prayed to God, "I give these feelings to You. If You want me to act on them, You either got to reject her from religious life or have her approach me about feelings of her own." Lo and behold, Amy would approach Luke a week and a half later, telling him her feelings. The two shortly started dating after this conversation, fell in love, and got engaged on May 7th, 2024.
