Turku is the oldest of Finland's cities and perhaps the most iconic, if you ask the locals that is. The former and original capital of Finland has seen the birth of the written form of the Finnish language, medieval fortresses and like London, many rebirths after burning down.
Thankfully, Turku is no longer a fire hazard but a tourist hotspot and the birthplace of notorious resident Stella! You can stroll along the Aurajoki (River Aura) and find a lively restaurant and theatre scene. Some of Finland's best restaurants can be found here.

For the best 'munkki' (doughnuts) in town, look no further than Cafe Ankka (The Duck Cafe) that is nestled alongside the Aura River.
