Luke and Kaylee met at Cal State Fullerton in the spring of 2013. To set the scene, Kaylee was a child development major in her last semester before graduating. She needed to take two extra classes to be eligible for graduation, so she prayed and then decided on a world religions, and a philosophy class. By a twist of fate or the work of the Lord, these happened to be Luke's two majors, and he was in both of her classes. They noticed each other on the fist day of class. She noticed the cute, hiker lookin' guy, and he, being such an expert on religion, noticed the cute Christian girl. Luke worked hard to find a way to talk to Kaylee the whole first part of the semester. It wasn't until a fire drill that he got his chance. After the whole class had to exit the building, he found her and struck up a conversation. When he found out they did indeed shared the same religious beliefs, and both had a love for rock climbing, he took a risk and asked her on a date. Kaylee said yes, and secretly hoped he would take her on a hike. Random, maybe, but she figured if anyone would, it might be this guy. Sure enough the dinner went so well that Luke decided to ask her on a hike and they haven't turned back since. He got down on one knee and asked Kaylee Blair Messner to be his wife on August 3, 2014 in Jackson Hole, WY, at the top of a rock they had climbed together.
