In the summer of 2012, Lynsay sat next to Alex on a flight from Boston bound for New Orleans. They bonded over Alex's questionable taste in music and JetBlue's amorphous animal crackers. (Seriously? Is that a hippo??)

Then, at baggage claim, Alex said, "Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy..."

To this day, they still sit in their JetBlue seats, 12C and 12D, every chance they get.

Alex took Lynsay hiking for the first time in her life. He chose Mount Roberts in New Hampshire: majestic and "legit" enough to be rewarding, yet not so strenuous as to cause a problem for his not-so-outdoorsy partner. Lynsay suspected nothing.

At the first overlook, Alex stopped, got down on one knee, and said something pure and true and romantic. Lynsay, for her part, cupped her face and cried, "Ohmygod. Really?? Right now?? Like, RIGHT now?!?" Thankfully, she stopped sobbing and shrieking for long enough to say yes. They then hiked the rest of the mountain, under branches and over boulders, engaged and elated.

As for hiking, Alex has essentially tricked Lynsay into loving it for life, based on sentimentality and skewed understanding of what happens at the tops of mountains.
