Hi there! It's Macie. Shamelessly, I love telling our story...

Cameron and I met at UGA in 2017. He was a grad transfer from Columbia, finishing up his football eligibility as a Georgia Bulldog (great choice). I was finishing up my final semester as a Grady graduate (Journalism school), with my schedule full of just one class for those last 4 months... it was 2 times/week and went all day (8am-6pm). The class was called "Newsource" and if you know, you know.

The summer before that final semester, Cameron and I were both "stuck" in Athens. He was in and out of football practice every day, while I was starting my radio career with part-time work as an afternoon host on a Top 40 station in town. The summer was easy for both of us... Cam was LOVING Athens over NYC, and I was very content with recording my show in a quick hour, then heading straight to the pool. The good life.

Throughout the summer, my roommate-at-the-time and I would often find ourselves at our favorite spot in downtown Athens- Pauley's Crepe Bar. It's the perfect day-drinking spot, and turns into a fun night life crowd when the sun drops. When the roommate and I would head to Pauley's in the afternoons, after a day of tanning, we were usually one of the only ones there at the time, always grabbing our seats at the bar. The bartenders knew exactly what we were there for: mimosas. Always. We were super close with the employees at the time, and the owner (hi, Ben!), who wouldn't charge us more than a cent every time... the biggest sweetheart I know. And now you also know why we were always there.

Anywho, on the many occasions we were at Pauley's, we would see Cameron and his bestfriend/roommate, Jake, sitting across the way- usually at the same table every time. We didn't know who they were... yet. They were always there with a different crowd, a small crowd, and it was always around the same time: 5PM. My roommate and I would always be unintentionally facing them, sitting at our usual spot at the bar every week, and I would constantly find myself glancing over and making eye contact with this... weird guy. Cue the weekly stare-downs. Every time I looked over, this tall, football-player-looking-dude was staring at me! Was he handsome? I kinda thought so.

As this kept happening and we kept seeing them, but never talking, we made it a joke that they were probably football players, probably full of themselves, and most likely hanging with different girls all the time. We were only half right.

This went on all summer. As the roommate and I were moving into our new place that August, I got a notification on Instagram that I had a new follower... you'll never guess who it was. @Camnizguy had found me and followed me on Instagram. What a creep, right?! I yelled for my roommate as I hit "follow back." We laughed in the kitchen so hard that day- he WAS a football player, he DID post a lot of solo-pics, but no girls in sight (haha). He'd probably want me to throw in here that yes, he was a total ladies man, but there were no ladies in sight on the 'gram.

I had no idea how he could've found me. The Pauley's location maybe? I'd find out later that one of his teammates (a mutual friend) had pulled me up on Instagram and Cam decided to throw me a follow. How romantic. After about a month of just following each other on social media- very millennial of us- I slid in. I remember wanting to say something (or really, I wanted him to say something), because we would still see each other at Pauley's, stare across the bar, and "like" one another's pictures, but neither of us ever said a thing. I think this is actually very normal in today's social media driven society. But I had had enough!

It was my nana's 90th birthday and mom was in charge of mixing up the margaritas. Note to self: don't ever let my mother make margaritas unless you want to be in bed by 8pm. They were delicious though. These margs led me to doing something I'd been wanting to do for the past month: slide into @Camnizguy's DMs. My opening line? "Mmm gimme." I had replied to his Instagram story of chips & salsa. Guess I was hungry after all of those margs.

I would go on and tell you that Cam said something like, "Finally! The girl of my dreams! You reached out! I love you! I've always loved you!"

But come on... we live a real life ;). What I can tell you... is that my nana's 90th, that one message, those strong margs, and that hot summer... it all led to where we are now. And it led to you... reading this.

We are so grateful for you, for our friends and family, for chips & salsa, margaritas, Pauley's, Instagram messages, nana, and for each other. Cam & I are so excited to continue our life together... and make cute babies.

And don't you worry... whenever that time does come, you know damn well they'll hear this story and I'll teach them how to slide in.
