Jake and Kenzi both grew up in Monticello, Minnesota. Though they attended the same middle and high school, their paths rarely crossed. The first conversation they can recall happened in Mr. Geyen’s Economics class during their senior year - just a brief interaction at the time, but a memory that would later become more meaningful. After graduating high school, life took them in different directions. Jake went on to study Genetics at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, while Kenzi pursued a degree in Biology at the University of Minnesota Morris. It wasn’t until the spring of 2020, near the end of their college years, that their lives intersected again. With the pandemic in full swing, Kenzi moved back home - and not long after, she and Jake matched online. Their first conversation quickly revealed a spark. They talked about their shared love of science, swapped favorite books, and chatted about their hopes for the future. It didn’t take long for them to realize how much they had in common. Their first date took place at Jake’s college house, since pandemic restrictions meant most places were closed. They made the best of it- renting a movie and ordering Chinese food. Midway through the evening, there was an unexpected knock on the door. It was Jake’s parents, Shannon and Keith, stopping by unannounced. By chance, Kenzi got to meet her future in-laws on her very first date with her future husband. From the start, Jake and Kenzi shared an ease and warmth that felt different. They quickly became inseparable, bonding over their love of laughter, nerdy hobbies, and quality time with loved ones. Whether it was late-night Dungeons &amp; Dragons sessions, road trips to their family cabins, or competitive volleyball games, they discovered the joy of being with their soulmate. After three years of adventure and deepening love, Jake proposed to Kenzi on September 2nd, 2023 at her family’s cabin on Coon Lake - a place full of memories and meaning. Today, Jake and Kenzi live in Minneapolis with their two cats, Pepper and Pax. In their free time, you’ll find them playing pickleball, video games, and D&amp;D; tending to their many houseplants; listening to audiobooks; or simply enjoying life together with their favorite people.
