Kyle and Mackenzie’s story began on October 16th, 2021, ironically, on a day the Nebraska Huskers would probably like to forget. Kyle had traveled up to Minnesota with a friend to watch the Minnesota vs. Nebraska game, not knowing he was also walking straight into the best plot twist of his life. As it turned out, Kyle’s friend was dating Mackenzie’s roommate, which is how fate (and college football) brought them into the same room..The Huskers didn’t win that day… but Kyle did. And as for Mackenzie? That was the day she officially became a Huskers fan, proof that love truly can make you do wild things. Later that night, they started talking. And then they never stopped. They stayed in touch until March 2023 when Kyle asked Mackenzie to be his girlfriend in Lincoln, Nebraska. From there, they tackled a long-distance stretch that would make any rom-com couple proud driving over 6.5 hours almost every other weekend between St. Paul and Lincoln just to spend time together..During those months, they collected memories like postcards: backpacking through western Upper Michigan, traveling to states fairs, wandering on weekend getaways across Minnesota, dancing at a wedding in Washington, crossing the eastern U.P. on a road trip, cheering on the Huskers at volleyball, wresting, basketball and football games, road tripping to Oklahoma, family vacations to Florida and Iowa, and visits to Mackenzie’s family in Wisconsin. With every adventure, they grew closer realizing again and again that life was better side by side..In November 2023, Kyle moved to St. Paul to be closer to Mackenzie. And after Mackenzie graduated college, the two of them moved to Lincoln, Kyle’s hometown, ready to start their next chapter together. But first, they had one more adventure planned: a 250+ mile backpacking trip on the John Muir Trail in California..Starting in mid-June 2025, they spent just over three unforgettable weeks hiking from south of Mount Whitney up to Yosemite, soaking in mountain sunrises, star-filled nights, and every mile in between. And unbeknownst to Mackenzie, Kyle was carrying a very important piece of gear the entire time: an engagement ring..At the end of their journey, they stopped beside a beautiful river. After 250+ miles, countless switchbacks, and more dehydrated meals than they care to count, Kyle finally dropped to one knee and asked Mackenzie to marry him. And of course, without a second of doubt, she said yes..From meeting in Minnesota, to dating in Nebraska, to getting engaged in California, their love story has been written across state lines. Now, they’re excited to take their next step in Wisconsin, celebrating with their closest family and friends as they begin the greatest adventure of all.
