Mackenzie and Trey grew up within miles of each other, attending rival high schools. However, it was not until years after high school, during the fall of 2018, when they went on their first date. Mackenzie was attending the University of Missouri in Columbia completing her senior year and Trey was in medical school at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Mackenzie came home to Kansas City for the weekend and the two met at a local coffee shop.

The coffee date lasted for three hours, and they both walked away knowing this could be something special. For the next several months, Mackenzie and Trey saw each other almost every weekend, taking turns going to Kansas City or Columbia. The two made long-distance work for over three years as Mackenzie went on to attend law school in Columbia and Trey finished medical school. Needless to say, most dates during those years were still at coffee shops, but this time only for studying.

In the fall of 2022, Mackenzie and Trey both started their careers and finally got to live in the same city for the first time in their four-year relationship. To add to the firsts, Mackenzie adopted a puppy named Lulu. Trey hesitantly agreed. Lulu is currently Trey’s full-time cell phone screensaver and the center of the couple's attention (and paychecks).

Trey proposed on December 22, 2023 at a beautiful winery just outside Weston, Missouri. The two are now enjoying their time as fiancés and cannot wait to celebrate their big day with each of you!
