Our Story

MacKenzie's Version:

I had known Mary Beth for a while, as she was one of the first people I met when we opened up our business. A while later, I moved to the area and still didn't know many people, which is when Mary Beth invited me out to "Hockey Night." Since I was new and had not been before, she had me sit with her friend, Melissa, and her sister, Janet. Sometime during the Hockey Night, Mary Beth had me come meet her son. The only problem is - I have a bad memory. I had no clue what the son's name was, and when she introduced me, she introduced me to two guys. There was a tall one that Mary Beth talked to for a while, and a short one that was quiet, so I figured the tall one was her son?

After Hockey Night was over, Mary Beth snagged me a ticket to the auction dinner, where I sat with her family and was able to meet some more people. Later on, her husband Steve arrived at the auction with both the tall one and the short one. She had the short one sit next to me, which is when I thought this may be the one that is her son. Her son (whose name I still didn't know) ended up moving three chairs away after I tried a couple times to talk to him. I thought "welp, he hates me."

Later on, Melissa and her family arrived, and her boys took the two chairs next to me since the dude had moved away from me. Once the boys sat down, dude picked up the boys and moved them to the other chairs, so he could sit back next to me. After a while, dude (whose name I finally got) finally started talking to me and walked me to my car at the end of the night after most everyone had left the dinner. I would say he asked for my number ... but that would be a lie. I asked for his number and we went on our first date a week later and, welp ... here we are!

Clint's Version:

It was hockey night, February 2024. I was working security for the Red Wings Alumni. My mom came over and introduced me to MacKenzie. We just said hi, and that was about it there. Then when I went to the dinner afterwards for the event, I saw her at our table. I sat 2 seats away to play it cool. She said don't you want to sit closer. Well, Gabe Osborn was between us, so I picked him up and moved him to where I was sitting. That way I could sit next to her.

As the night progressed, we did some small chatting, and she laughed at some of my jokes. I thought that was a good start. After the dinner was over she wanted to help and clean up, so I joined her, that way I could hang out with her for some more time. After I displayed my amazing balloon-popping skills, we headed towards the parking lot, where she offered her phone number to me. I made sure to call so I knew that I wasn't being pranked. For the next week, we talked everyday, and to this day, she has been by my side and dealt with my shenanigans (which I'm told is an accomplishment all by itself).
