When Macon and I were 11, we were both invited to VBS by two of our closest friends, Cole and Karis (both of whom are now in our wedding!). While we were there, we immediately noticed each other. At some point during the week, Macon pointed at me (Tanner) and told Cole, “I want that one.” Meanwhile, I went home and told my friends Karis and Kaitlyn (who is also in our wedding!) that I had a crush on Macon.
As crazy as it sounds, even at such a young age—and without really knowing each other—we both had a feeling the other person would be someone special in our lives one day.
After VBS, we kept our eyes on each other. Macon began playing baseball as a homeschooler for the same school where I played basketball. We exchanged looks from time to time but didn’t talk much. Eventually, our mutual friend Isaac (also one of Macon’s groomsmen) told us separately that we both liked each other! Macon became friends with my brothers through baseball and eventually got their phone number, which he then used to talk to me!
Since we were too young to date, we spent the next two years just getting to know each other and becoming closer. Whenever we could, we’d go to each other’s games. One crazy story is that both Macon and I hit our only home runs during our freshman year when we were there cheering each other on!
Sadly, after his freshman year, Macon moved away to French Camp, Mississippi, and we decided it was best to not start dating and just stay friends. Fast forward to COVID, after Macon had been in French Camp almost a year, we started talking again. Soon after, we decided to start officially dating. And the rest is history!
Throughout high school, we took turns driving to each other’s games and homes. After graduation, Macon went to Belhaven to play football, and I went to Mississippi State. Despite the two-hour distance and crazy schedules, we made it work. After two years of college, on June 22, 2024, Macon proposed, and I, of course, said yes!
We believe the Lord is the author of our story and that He has been in every detail. If we had the time, we would love to share all the ways we’ve seen His faithfulness lead us to this very season. We pray that our wedding day reflects Jesus returning for the church, and that our marriage continues to reflect this every day. We pray that He receives all the honor, glory, and praise in our story and in this season!
