Macy and Wojtek both lived in West Palm Beach, occasionally running into each other but never holding a full conversation. Unbeknownst to them, they shared mutual friends, including Parul, who decided to set them up during the 2020 lockdown. She invited Macy to a "girls-only" picnic and told Wojtek to stop by, hinting that her “cute blonde friend” would be there.
That Sunday, they bonded over drinks, complaining about the dating scene in West Palm Beach. Ironically, this sparked their connection. By the end of the night, they realized how much they had in common and grabbed a gourmet dinner—Domino’s pizza and cheesy bread.
Their first official date was on Cinco de Mayo, where they cooked a meal together and started watching The Assassination of Gianni Versace (Macy’s pick). Wojtek, though unfamiliar with the show, was eager to spend time with her—until he dozed off, missing most of the episode!
For Macy, the pivotal moment came during their first trip to Asheville. In a cozy cabin, Wojtek professed his love, and that’s when Macy knew she wanted to marry him. For Wojtek, his defining moment came six months into their relationship when he fell seriously ill with a respiratory condition (not COVID) that required surgery. During that tough time, Macy stayed by his side, caring for him and helping him recover. That’s when he realized he could build a future with her.
Before buying the ring, Wojtek reached out to Macy’s parents for their blessing. He spoke to her mom, Beth, who was thrilled, but couldn’t reach her dad, Jamie. Wojtek left a voicemail asking for a call back and carried on with the plan. Later that day, as Wojtek and Macy were headed to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Jamie returned the call. With Jamie’s name lighting up on CarPlay, Wojtek quickly played dumb, ignoring the call. Persistent, Jamie kept calling back, as did Macy’s stepmom. Wojtek continued pretending he had no idea why they were calling!
On their anniversary night, with the ring in his pocket, Wojtek was nervously clenching it during the Uber ride to dinner. He had planned to text the restaurant manager about the proposal setup upon arrival, but in his excitement, he left his phone in the car. While they waited for their table, the manager passed by, and a simple head nod from Wojtek set the plan in motion. She offered them a tour of the secret wine vault.
Inside the vault, Wojtek pointed to the back wall, saying, “Look at that bottle.” As Macy turned her back, asking, “Which bottle?,” she finally turned around to find Wojtek down on one knee, holding the ring. Macy in her excitement, didn’t say anything, but kept nodding yes.
And for those wondering what happened to Wojtek's phone, the uber driver realized that he left his phone in the car and actually came back to the restaurant to return it.
