Colten and I always knew each other growing up. He went to school in Christoval and I went to Mertzon. We both competed in extracurricular events and always made it a point to say a friendly "Hi" and catch up when we saw each other but nothing more.
Well.. fast forward.... Once upon a time, back in March of 2017, our Junior Year of High School, Colten and I were both competing in a UIL competition. During the off time at the competition, we waited to compete in the Gym of the school we were competing at. This specific day, I walk up on the home side of the gym going to find a seat to wait for my event. I didn't even make it to my seat, and I hear, "Hey Macy - Come over here and say Hi to me!" from across the gym. I look up and you guessed it - the voice came from Colten himself. No shame in every one else sitting in the gym, he was bound and determined he wanted to talk to me. I was intrigued, so off I went to the other side of the gym to talk to him. We caught up and talked, like normal, then went to our events and competed, but the longer the day went on something felt different. The day was coming to a close and I knew he was about to leave. I had to find him to tell him bye.
I found him in the foyer way of the gym, so we leaned up against the wall and caught up some more before it was time for him to go. The funny part to this is for some odd reason, he kept backing up from me in a nervous sort of act and leaning back on the wall. Towards the end of the conversation, he ended up running out of wall space to back up on and as he was talking, he goes to lean back on the wall and completely misses it because it was no longer there. He was so embarrassed, and we joke about it to this day, but that was the day he had me hooked.
Here we are 7 years later about to get married and start our fairytale of a life together. We have been through some good and bad already together and found out some pretty cool things along the way.
Come to find out, our parents went to high school together and our dad's talked in the elevator when both, Colten and I, were born. We were born a day apart from each other at Shannon Hospital. My Dad, asked Colten's Dad in the elevator, "Well, what did you have?" and he said, "The most beautiful, blonde-haired, blue-eyed, baby boy you've ever seen."
Some story... if you ask me, it sounds meant to be. Neither Colten or I knew any of it, until that day in March of 2017. Even though he missed a wall that day and was so embarrassed, I thank God he did.
So, here's to us, our beautifully written story so far, and the even more beautiful story we will write as husband and wife.
