How We Met

Picture of How We Met

Macy and Shawn first met through Shawn's childhood best friend, and now Best Man, Ryan Wolff. Right away, the ice was broken when both realized they already shared the same last name Miles! They would continue to casually run into each other the next couple of years at holiday parties and Stars games and remained friends. Flash forward to the pandemic, where everyone is basically constrained to dating apps and Macy comes across Shawn's profile on Bumble and immediately swipes right hoping it's a match...nothing. It wasn't until a few days later that Shawn matched with her and immediately texted Macy to come join him, his sister Kristen and her fiancé Dylan at Ryan's house for some mimosas and they've been popping bottles ever since!

The Proposal

Shawn took the opportunity to propose to Macy on the perfect day with the perfect distraction. It was Cayson's first birthday party and Macy was wrapped up in helping everyone prepare for the "big day", while unknowingly also prepping for her soon-to-be engagement. He had contacted all of their closest friends and family throughout the day and while people were leaving the birthday celebration, the others were filing in outside. Kristen asked Macy for her help picking up the toys from the kids party in the backyard since things were wrapping up while Shawn had everyone gather inside for the big moment. Macy being Macy, she continued to pick up the backyard and it wasn't until Kristen made her stop that she finally went back inside where she was shocked to be greeted by Shawn and all their favorite people that had arrived. It was the perfect day and one that they'll cherish sharing for years to come with Cayson.

Favorite Memories

Macy's:

1. Our first time hanging out - Since it was COVID, we jumped right into hanging out at his place. The fact that we already knew each other prior and that his place was actually Ryan's house (his best man and my coworker), made it pretty easy and laid-back. From the start he included his family in our plans and I was nervous but also excited because it was clear that they were a huge part of his life and I felt very lucky to experience that from the very beginning. We ended up at his parents house where we got to spend time with Ellarose, his niece, and seeing him interact with her and the rest of his family that day, I was completely captivated and impressed. He has such a huge heart and puts family first and I love that about him so much!

2. Our last Ski Trip - Our ski trip last year was memorable and special from beginning to end. I came into it with more experience and confidence and we were able to spend more time on the slopes together in the end which meant so much to me. Even though it wasn't easy for me to get the hang of it at first, Shawn spent that whole day being patient and encouraging (in his own way lol) and he pushed me to keep getting back up. We enjoyed so many laughs and memories on that trip that I'll cherish forever, just never ask us to ride up in a gondla or fly out of Denver on Christmas Eve Eve again! ;)

There's so many favorite memories we've shared over the years, more than I can even attempt to pick from but this journey with Shawn has been unlike anything I could've ever imagined. No one tell him, but he is one of the funniest people I know and every moment with him is full of love and laughter. If you know us, then you know we're always on the go and rarely slow down. Playing and organizing softball, running golf tournaments, making trips out to Lubbock for Texas Tech football games, planning a wedding - no matter what it is, I know we'll always be in it together and making each moment better than the last!

Shawn's:

Our First Date - I wanted to impress her to so I took her to the most reliable place I know, Gallo Nero. Gallo is a special place for me and my family. It means a lot to me and now we both share that. In fact, the first time we hung out, I picked up Gallo to-go so it's been a part of us since the very start!

My 30th Birthday - Not to make this about me, but the amount of effort and planning that Macy put into my surprise 30th birthday party was incredible. She included friends I never could've imagined she would think of. She truly made me feel special far beyond what I deserved!

My favorite memories with Macy are happening every day. I genuinely enjoy being around her no matter what we're doing. Whether it's hanging out with family, playing softball, or drinking SMU out of beer at the Texas State football bowl game I'm at my happiest when I'm with her. My three sisters are also very important to me and a huge part of my life. Watching Macy get along with them so well and build such genuine relationships with each of them makes me so happy and excited to make her part of the family (again ;))
